Palm Beach Dramaworks to Welcome William Ivey Long for 'Dramalogue' Series, 3/1

In addition to being big Broadway hits, those musicals have something else in common: their costume designer, the brilliant William Ivey Long. On Tuesday, March 1, Long will speak with Sheryl Flatow about the craft of costume design and discuss his illustrious career as part of Palm Beach Dramaworks' popular series,Dramalogue - Talking Theatre! William Ivey Long: Creating Character Through Costumes will be presented twice, at 2pm and 7pm, at the Don & Ann Brown Theatre.

Inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame in 2005, Long has designed over 70 Broadway productions, been nominated for 15 Tony Awards, and won 6. A short list of other memorable shows includes the recent revival of On the Twentieth Century, Bullets Over Broadway, the Roundabout Theatre Company's production of Cabaret,Grey Gardens, The Boy from Oz, Crazy For You, Six Degrees of Separation, Lend Me a Tenor, and Young Frankenstein. He enjoys a special working relationship with director/choreographer Susan Stroman, with whom he has collaborated on a dozen Broadway shows. He has also worked with her at New York City Ballet, and on the Metropolitan Opera's production of The Merry Widow. In addition, he has worked with choreographers Twyla Tharp, Peter Martins, Paul Taylor, and David Parsons, among others. Most recently, Long was costume designer for FOX's highly acclaimed live telecast of Grease.

Dramalogue is a series made up of six programs that explore all aspects of theatre in conversations with or about the industry's top professionals and master artists. There are two more programs to come this season, following the interview with Long. On March 29, four directors very familiar to Florida audiences will take part inTheatre Roundtable: Directly Speaking. PBD Producing Artistic Director William Hayes and J. Barry Lewis will be joined by GableStage Producing Artistic Director Joseph Adler and Actors' Playhouse Artistic Director David Arisco to discuss the many facets of their work. Hayes and Lewis will serve as co-hosts. The series concludes on April 12 with Rodgers & Hammerstein: The Golden Age of Musical Theatre. Lewis returns to explore the groundbreaking collaboration of composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II. The program will include live music.

Mark Perlberg is the executive producer of Dramalogue, which is sponsored by Nancy and Jay Parker. Presentations may include videos clips and/or scene readings. Audiences are invited to participate in a Q&A at the conclusion of each event. Remaining individual tickets are $20.
