Noel Coward's 'Private Lives'-Mini South Florida Tour
Curtain Call Playhouse Productions
Private Lives is one of the most flippant plays ever written. Elyot
and Amanda, once married and now honeymooning with new spouses at the
same hotel, meet by chance, reignite the old spark and impulsively
elope.
After days of being reunited, they again find their fiery romance
alternating between passions of love and anger. Their aggrieved spouses
appear and a roundelay of affiliations ensues as the women first stick
together, then apart, and new partnerships are formed. Eventually there
is a knock-down-drag-out fight which opens the eyes of Elyot and
Amanda, who then steal off together a second time.
Private Lives is this writer's favorite Noel Coward play. It has had glorious productions on Broadway. I saw the one starring Maggie Smith and will remember the hilarity forever. A decade or so ago Joan Collins starred in a less well received production of Private Lives. Let's see how the Curtain Call Playhouse does with Mr. Coward's masterpiece.
"Gorgeous, dazzling, fantastically funny"- N.Y. Times
"A brilliant comedy. A very funny play."- Newsweek
Curtain Call Playhouse's production features Kris Coffelt and
Steven Chambers in the roles of Amanda and Elyot, respectively, with
performances by Doug Williford and Elise Girardin as Victor and Sybil, their
unfortunate spouses.
