"LIGHTS UP ON KIDS" – Summer Workshop at the Waterfront Playhouse

Produced by The Key West Players, Inc.

July 21 to August 9, 2008

"Lions and Tigers and Bears! Oh My! It's Time For Lights Up On Kids At The Waterfront Playhouse!"

The Waterfront Playhouse announces the return of "Lights Up On Kids," a comprehensive summer theatre workshop for children ages 7 to 17. The workshop is produced by The Key West Players and made possible through a generous grant from the Dogwood Foundation. The Players have enlisted Cameron Murray and Daniel Bonnett as co-directors for this three week musical theatre workshop at the Waterfront, which will run July 21 to August 9, 2008. Both Mr. Murray and Mr. Bonnett are well-known for their creation and long-time association with Keys Kids, as well as their work on all of the Key West stages.

The workshop is entitled "Creature Feature," and will take the participants on a journey through the Broadway musical world of animals, enchanted objects and magical creatures. The spotlight will be on such popular Broadway musicals as The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Cats, Suessical and The Jungle Book. The workshop will cover training in all aspects of theatre, including voice, dance, acting, improvisation, mask making, as well as set, costume and prop design and construction. The workshop will culminate in a fully staged production, which will be developed in the workshop and will be open to the public.

Cameron Murray is the current artistic director for Keys Kids, as well as the drama/theatre instructor at Key West High. Daniel Bonnett is the founder of Keys Kids, and is currently teaching and performing in the Ft. Lauderdale area. Between them, they have staged over 50 shows for Keys Kids, including Peter Pan, Annie, Grease, 42nd Street, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The King and I, Bye, Bye Birdie, 101 Dalmatians and The Wizard of Oz.

The workshop will be divided into 2 groups: the morning session will be 10:00 to 12:30 for ages 7 to 12 and the afternoon session will be 1:00 to 4:00 for ages 13 to 17. Each group is limited to 20 participants. The cost for the workshop is $300.00 for one child; $500 for 2 children from the same family; $700 for 3 children from the same family. Some financial assistance will be available from the Waterfront Playhouse, made possible in part by a generous grant from the Dogwood Foundation. For enrollment, scholarships, or more information, please contact Gary Symons, the Business Manager for the Key West Players at 305-394-7445 or at gjsymons@hotmail.com.
