Miami Lyric Opera to Present TOSCA at South Miami Dade Cultural Arts Center

Miami Lyric Opera will present TOSCA this month at South Miami Dade Cultural Arts Center.

Tosca, opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini with Libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa based on the original play of Victorien Sardou. This great musical drama was set in Rome of 19th Century, with the Kingdom of Naples's control of Rome threatened by Napoleon's invasion of Italy. It contains depictions of torture, murder and corruption, yet also includes some of Puccini's best-known lyrical arias, and has inspired memorable performances from many of opera's leading singers.

Floria Tosca the lover of painter Mario Cavaradossi who sympathizes to republicans against the royalty, was threaten by cruel Chief of Police Baron Scarpia who wanted her sexual favors in exchange to save the life of the imprisoned Mario as political adversary. The drama escalates while evolved with beautiful melodies and arias such as Recondita Armonia, Vissi D'arte, E luccevan le stelle, etc.

Cast: Nathalie Avila, Enrique Pina, Nelson Martinez, Eric Dobkin, Alexander Adam-Leytes, Gabriel Menendez, Ismael Gonzalez, and Catherine Gispert.

Featuring the MLO Orchestra and Chorus with Chorus Master Pablo Hernandez, Conductor Jeff Eckstein and Artistic Director Raffaele Cardone.
