The Maltz Jupiter Theatre has announced that the big and splashy Broadway hit Mamma Mia! is the long-awaited surprise show of its 2018/19 season!

While the Theatre's season was announced in January, the Theatre's agreement with its licensors prevented an official press announcement of Mamma Mia! until April 1. The mega-musical is anticipated to be so popular that the Theatre has added a rare fourth week, something that has not been done since the Theatre's production of Les Misérables in 2015.

Based on the songs of ABBA with music and lyrics by Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson and a book by Catherine Johnson, Mamma Mia! tells the story of Sophie, a young woman desperate to find her biological father as her wedding day approaches. After reading her mother's diary from a wild summer 20 years ago, Sophie learns that her dad could be one of three men. She invites the men to her wedding without telling her mother, who is unprepared by the surprise reunion with her three ex-lovers. What ensues is one unforgettable trip down the aisle!

"Although Mamma Mia! utilizes popular songs, having this production in our intimate theatre under the direction of Carbonell Award-winning director Mark Martino will bring us closer to the story of a young woman in search of family," said Andrew Kato, the Theatre's producing artistic director and chief executive. "The beloved musical is just one of a vibrant selection of plays and musicals that everyone will be talking about."

The 2018/19 season will begin with Steel Magnolias (October 28 - November 11), a beloved American comedy/drama that examines the complexities of six women's lives as they navigate love, loss and the fierceness of friendship. We continue with Disney Beauty and the Beast (November 27 - December 16), the spectacular and timeless Broadway blockbuster that tells the story of a tenacious beauty who meets a prince-turned-beast. Next up is Mamma Mia! (January 15 - February 10), the Tony Award-nominated smash hit musical that will have you dancing in your seat to ABBA's greatest hits. Then join us for the South Florida regional premiere of A Doll's House, Part 2, an uproariously funny comedy fresh from its Broadway run that imagines Nora's untold story after leaving her marriage in Henrik Ibsen's famed play. Our incredible season ends with West Side Story, the Tony Award-winning sizzling dance musical about two star-crossed lovers caught between warring street gangs.

A hit on both London's West End and Broadway, Mamma Mia's Broadway incarnation closed in September 2015 after a 14-year run and 5,758 performances, making it the ninth longest-running show in Broadway history. The musical was adapted as a hit 2008 film starring Meryl Streep, with a sequel slated for release in 2018.

Groups are encouraged to attend Mamma Mia!, with incomparable seating available to those who reserve tickets early.

"As a special incentive to book the third and fourth weeks of Mamma Mia!, anyone who puts together a group of 10 or more will be seated before individual tickets go on sale to the public," said Dana Munson, the Theatre's director of marketing. "Start planning an unforgettable night out with friends or family today!"
