Through a partnership with the internationally-renowned luxury company Montblanc, the Maltz Jupiter Theatre is bringing four free preview performances of the award-winning world premiere musical Academy to The Gardens Mall.

Local families can see three of the stars of Academy perform in the mall's center court at 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 15, and at noon on Monday, Aug. 16.

The show, which got its start in Jupiter in 2008, won several awards at last October's New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF), and won the top award for Best Musical in July at South Korea's Daegu International Musical Festival. Cast members had the honor of ringing the closing bell at NASDAQ in New York upon their return to the U.S. The show's world premiere will take place at the Theatre in December.

"As a not-for-profit theatre serving our community, we are grateful to the internationally-renowned luxury company Montblanc for their support of live theatre," said Tricia Trimble, managing director of the Maltz Jupiter Theatre. "Our three-year partnership has been one of collaborative support. Montblanc supported the first Emerging Artists in Musical Theatre Playwriting Series, of which Academy was a part, and their contribution helped nurture the creation, development and recognition of the award-winning show."

After each performance, guests will be invited to visit the Montblanc boutique on the second level for an exclusive meet and greet with the performers and director of the upcoming production of Academy.

The show's cast members are still reeling from the performances that put Academy on the map in New York and South Korea, where hundreds of fans thronged the sidewalks to meet them. Academy garnered equal praise from international media and the New York Times, who wrote that the show was "one of the most impressive of the full productions" at the NYMF festival in 2009.

Academy has also come full circle for the show's creators, Andrew Kato, artistic director at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre (a graduate of Jupiter High School) and John Mercurio (a graduate of the Benjamin School). As youth, they wrote their first musical, Switch, which was performed on the same stage in Jupiter in 1987.
