Mad Cat Theatre Company unleashes its 15th season with the politically charged romantic comedy The Star-Spangled Girl by Neil Simon. An unlikely fit at first glance, this 1966 piece depicts a country polarized after the hangover of the hippie generation's summer of love. Now, re-examined by Mad Cat, the play will be deconstructed to take place in 2066, with temperatures rising and political tensions mounting; the action underscored by narration and live music.

Directed by Artistic Director and Founder Paul Tei, this cautionary tale of The Star-Spangled Girl explores the role of obsession in a futuristic world where resources are few and far between, technology has folded in on itself, and women still struggle for equality. Andy Howart and Norman Cornwell, played respectively by company members Theo Reyna and Noah Levine, are radicals who struggle to survive working on their magazine, Fallout, which is dedicated to fighting corruption in America. Sophie Rauschmeyer, played by company member Jessica Farr, is a stranger from somewhere else who moves into the apartment next door and finds herself in a compromising situation. Stephen G. Anthony will be narrating and performing the live music along with company member Brian Sayre on percussion.

The Star-Spangled Girl is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. Stephen G. Anthony and Jessica Farr are members of Actors' Equity Association appearing under a Special Appearance Contract.

The production and design team for The Star-Spangled Girl consists of the sound design by company member Matt Corey, costume design by company member Karelle Levy, set design by Paul Tei, lighting design by Tammy Srinivas. Live music performed by Stephen G. Anthony and Brian Sayre.

This production is made possible by the Miami Theater Center, the Miami Foundation, the Knight Foundation, Delaplaine Champagne and with the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and the Board of County Commissioners.
