Lyric Theatre Screens BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI And CITIZEN KANE 8/22, 8/23

Historical masterpiece films Bridge on the River Kwai and Citizen Kane will be shown at the Lyric Theatre of Historic Downtown Stuart free of charge to the public courtesy of The Lyric Theatre and the City of Stuart Community Redevelopment Agency. The Bridge on the River Kwai will be shown at 3pm on Saturday, August 22nd and 7pm on Sunday, August 23rd. Citizen Kane will be shown at 7pm on Saturday, August 22nd and 3pm on Sunday, August 23rd. Tickets are available only by visiting the Lyric Theatre Box Office. The free tickets are limited to 4 per person and are subject to availability.

Directed by David Lean in1957, Bridge on the River Kwai focuses on British prisoners of war during WWI who are commanded to build a bridge to accommodate for the Burma-Siam railway. The film, based on the novel by Pierre Boulle, stars William Holden, Alec Guinness and Jack Hawkins. This incredible story of overcoming adversity runs a total of 161 minutes (2 hours and 41 minutes) and won an incredible seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Citizen Kane, directed by Orson Welles in 1941, is widely regarded as the best movie of all time. The film follows the life and career of publishing giant, Charles Foster Kane, whose career is born of social service, but eventually evolves into a pursuit of power. The story is revealed through the research of a reporter attempting to solve the mystery of the newspaper magnate's last words, "Rosebud." 119 minutes long (1 hour and 59 minutes), Orson Welles' first feature film won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and is rated by the American Film Institute as the #1 best American film of all time. Roger Ebert calls it "the greatest movie ever made."

The Lyric Theatre is a historic, 500-seat venue that hosts a year-round slate of entertainment including concerts, theatrical productions and children's programs.
