LAKE WORTH PLAYHOUSE ANNOUNCES ITS 60TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON (2012 - 2013)
As the oldest performing arts organization in Palm Beach County, The Lake Worth Playhouse announced their 60th season, a diamond year of celebration.
Located in the heart of Palm Beach County, Florida's Cultural Capitol, the Lake Worth Playhouse has become an artistic milestone. They are the home of talented artists and performers, dedicated volunteers and a loyal and ever-growing population of patrons and donors.
The 60th season will be no less than the highest caliber of excellence. This season of grand theatrical entertainment draws across every taste from the beloved Broadway classic, The King and I to the nostalgic heartwarming, if a little offbeat 1940's Radio Hour to the wonderfully unique, vintage style show-within-a-show The Drowsy Chaperone, to the uproarious comedic wit of The Foreigner to the over-the-top spectacle of showmanship of Barnum. Of course, all preceded by the socially charged and delightfully charming, modern hit, Hairspray, this summer.

2012 - 2013 Season Lineup
Hairspray
July 5 - 29. Winner of 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Hairspray sweeps you away to 1960's Baltimore where the 50's are out and change is in the air. Loveable plus-size heroine, Tracy, has a passion for dancing, and wins a spot on the local TV dance program. Overnight she finds herself transformed from an outsider to teen celebrity. Can a larger-than-life adolescent somehow manage to vanquish the program's reigning princess, integrate the television show, and find true love all without mussing her hair?
King and I
October 4 - 21. Winner of 5 Tony Awards including Best Musical, The King and I is a romantic musical. The boy-meets-girl plot is woven into the historical context of the British Imperialism in Asia. It is also the story of a clash between cultures and the dynamics between Great Britain and The Orient. The King of Siam invites an English governess to come to his country and teach the children of his many wives about the modern world. Yet he himself resists changing his traditional role as the benevolent patriarchal dictator until the bold young governess wins his heart and his respect.
1940s Radio Hour
November 15 - December 2. Nominated for 6 Drama Desk Awards, 1940s Radio Hour portrays the final holiday broadcast of the struggling Mutual Manhattan Variety Cavalcade as it takes to the air during World War II to record its broadcast for the troops overseas. It features hit songs from the era, dancing and old time sound effects. It's the story of a harassed producer whose lead singer is often drunk, a delivery boy who wants a chance behind the mic, a second banana who dreams of singing a ballad and a trumpet-playing sound effects man who chooses a fighter plane over Glenn Miller.
The Drowsy Chaperone
January 17 - February 3. Winner of 5 Tony Awards, The Drowsy Chaperone is a rare combination of unprecedented originality and blinding talent, The Drowsy Chaperone boldly addresses an unspoken, deep desire in all of our hearts: to be entertained. If you've ever sat in a dark theatre and thought, "Dear Lord in heaven, please let it be good," this is the show for you! It begins when a die-hard, musical-theater fan plays his favorite album on his turntable. The musical literally bursts to life in his living room, telling the rambunctious tale of a brazen Broadway starlet trying to find, and keep, her true love.
The Foreigner
February 28 - March 17. Winner of 2 Outer Critics Circle Awards, The Foreigner takes place in a resort-style fishing lodge in rural Georgia, this comedy revolves around its zany guests and Englishman Charlie Baker and Staff Sergeant Froggy LeSueur. Charlie is so pathologically shy that he is unable to speak. As way of explanation, Froggy claims that his companion is the native of an exotic country who does not understand a word of English. Before long, Charlie finds himself privy to assorted secrets and scandals freely discussed in front of him by the other visitors.
Barnum
April 11 - 28. Winner of 3 Tony Awards, Barnum traces the life of the legendary huckster Phineas Taylor Barnum from the purchase of his first sideshow act through his partnership with James A. Bailey. At the center is the stormy buT Loving relationship between P.T. and his wife, Charity who attempts to tame her wild husband. He finally convinces her, by curtain's close, that the world desperately needs his particular brand of hogwash.
Opening Nights
Opening Nights Galas are the perfect, high style theatre evening. With a pre show champagne and hors d'oeurve reception and post show dessert spread catered by Callaro's, Opening Nights are a truly unique show experience.

Looking for a sneak peek at our mainstage shows before they opens? Preview Night offers the opportunity to see one of their mainstage shows before everyone else and at a discounted rate.
Dinner & Show Packages
Dinner & Show Packages enliven all the senses with a winning combination of culture and cuisine. Each package comes with discounted, premium Playhouse seats to any main stage showing, a three course meal, coffee and soft drinks.
Talk Backs
Talk Backs provide an interactive question and answer session where audiences have the chance to look behind the scenes of what it takes to envision, construct, design and create a main stage production by asking questions of the actors and creative team. Talk Backs are held after every second Saturday matinee performance of their Main Stage Shows and begin immediately after the show ends, lasting for about 20 minutes. Talk Backs are free to attend and open to the public.

Subscriptions are now available and seating is limited in their intimate and visually astounding historic theatre built in 1924. Patrons can save more than $45 when subscribing with additional ticket discounts available. With subscriptions starting as little as $69 up to $265, there is a package available for everyone.
