Island City Stage Presents THE FIRST STEP - DIARY OF A SEX ADDICT

This blistering comedy/drama graphically depicts the story of Joe, a gay sex addict, and his turbulent journey toward recovery.

Written and directed by Tony Award nominated Michael Leeds, "The First Step" reveals a life rarely seen on the stage in funny, poignant ways, full of flights of fantasy. The New York Times called the production "Truly inspired... A wry tale of sexual obsession with inventive stellar moments."

Playwright/director Leeds , who has been working on revisions and improvements to the play for the past several months says, "I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to once again bring "The First Step" to South Florida and especially this time to my home, Island City Stage. Watching the audience respond to the humor and pain of the piece was gratifying, but more rewarding were the many emails I received from men and women who said the play helped them to face their disease and take The First Step. I hope this production might do the same."

The production stars local favorite Mike Westrich along with Casey Dressler, Michael Friedman, Noah Levine and Stephan Pineda. Island City Stage's acclaimed design team of Michael McClain (sets), Peter Lovello (costumes), David Hart (sound) and Dean Landhuis (lighting) have created a steamy, underground milieu for the show.

Audiences should be aware that this play contains nudity and graphic sexual situations.

"The First Step - Diary of a Sex Addict" runs January 12 through February 11 at Island City Stage, 2034 N. Dixie Highway in Wilton Manors.
