Galerie Dukan Presents Alicia Paz and Lionel Scoccimaro at ART MIAMI

By: Nov. 23, 2016

The Galerie Dukan (based in Leipzig and Saint-Ouen) is pleased to present Alicia Paz and Lionel Scoccimaro at Art Miami 2016.

Born in Mexico City (1967) and based in London, Alicia Paz is also American and French. Through her work, Paz explores aspects of identity in flux, examining notions of hybridity, assemblage, and metamorphosis. Her practice integrates diverse materials and techniques, in order to produce amalgamated portraits that negotiate contradictions of contemporary life, reflecting a female subjectivity. Her works are as much portraits as they are landscapes, combining influences that range from erudite painting or the history of the painted image, to citations of advertising images or comics. Interweaving multiple painting techniques and the effects of collage and trompe l'oeil, her aim is to examine the tension between artifice and the actual processes involved in painting.

The French artist Lionel Scoccimaro exhibits his large series of "Culbutos" specifically made for the Miami Art Fair. Referring to the world of tuning and customization, the artist revisits children's toys such as weeble wobbles, ninepins and matryoshkas, which he turns into highly seductive and visually impacting artworks. For these 8 pieces, he developed the design with the official painter of the house of Harley Davidson. In search of perfection, this nomadic surfer always works in straight collaboration with the best craftsmen. Using the technique of bronze casting, the pieces are edited in 8 + 4 AP. Glorifying aesthetics through a powerful design, this lover of American subcultures questions contemporary consumer society by offering a subtle, enigmatic, sometimes ironic but always lively perspective on the concept of "desire" to the viewer.
