Free Play Reading-'Oh Dad, Poor Dad...'-Miami Lakes' Ghost Light

By: Mar. 28, 2006

NEVER COME BETWEEN A MOTHER, HER SON….AND HER FISH

The Ghost Light Series continues its mission--showcasing South
Florida stage actors in play readings, concentrating on proven material by
seasoned playwrights.

Their next installment spotlights the Arthur Kopit classic, Oh Dad,
Poor Dad Mamma's Hung You in the Closet and I'm Feelin' So Sad. Subtitled
"a pseudoclassical tragifarce in a bastard French tradition," Kopit's
debut features the adventurous Madame Rosepettle and her son, Jonathan.
When on vacation in Havana, the duo encounter love; each dealing with
it in their own special way. Unfortunately, it's at a disadvantage for
the objects of their affections when a bond between mother and child is
threatend. Oh Dad, Poor Dad…premiered on Broadway in 1962 and won the
Outer Circle Award for Drama.

In 1959, Arthur Kopit graduated from Harvard with a Bachelor of Arts
in Electrical engineering, but playwriting has been his passion. For
the past 4 decades after, Mr. Kopit has been an important figure in the
theater world. Other pieces include Indians, Wings, the libretto for the
musical Nine, Y2K, and its rewritten version, BecauseHeCan. Mr. Kopit
was given a Guggenheim Fellowship and was nominated for two Tonys (for
Indians and Wings.)

The reading of Oh Dad, Poor Dad… will take place on Tuesday, April
25th, 2006, 8:00pm at the Main Street Playhouse, 6766 Main Street, Miami
Lakes. Admission is free. For more information, please call (954)
