Duncan Theatre Announces 2016-2017 Season

The reputable Duncan Theatre has announced their 2016/17season with prominent artists MOMIX, tribute artists such as Stayin' Alive to the extraordinary Drumline LIVE, the mesmerizing Pants Down Circus: Rock and the underwear performing Skivvies and many more! The intimate Duncan Theatre with the 700 seat and 122 seat Stage West Theatre performing arts venues will be exploding with dance, concerts, family shows, classical music as well as a spectacular cinema live stage show on the Lake Worth campus of Palm Beach State College.

Back by popular demand is the renowned Modern Dance Series; the preeminent South Florida offering is a one-of-a kind in the entire Southeast region of the United States featuring Philadanco, Malpaso Dance Company, MOMIX and Bodytraffic. The Dancer's Space: Create.DANCE.Florida will offer two special performances with a fall and spring filled with local artists with inspiring and thought-provoking works of modern dance. The Mix Tape Music Series: The 70's and 80's with Stayin' Alive: One night of The Bee Gees will also include Disco Inferno: A 70's Celebration! And Live in Central Park Revisited: Simon and Garfunkel, and the Juke Box Music Series is already sold out.

Bring the entire family of all ages for three incredible theatrical shows featuring Pete the Cat, and for the holidays Lightwire Theater's A Very Electric Christmas and then the amazing spectacle New Shanghai Circus. For classical music enthusiasts the Café Series presented in Stage West will include an artist meet and greet post-show for each performance of the Jasper String Quartet, Panther String Trio, Vienna Piano Trio and Jacob Shaw on cello.

The recently appointed Executive Director, Mark Alexander, will now manage theatre operations for all three theatres for Palm Beach State College including the Duncan Theatre. Mark has taken this season to another level by offering the community an incredible variety of entertainment with series discounts. "It is very important that we offer affordable prices and access to live dance, concerts and family shows to the community." Current 2016/17 member single ticket on sale is Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. and the public ticket on sale is Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Season subscriptions are offered to six different types of series starting at $85.00. Individual memberships start at $100 providing many benefits including priority seating before the public on sale September 21st, advanced notice of new performances as well as ticket discounts on select Duncan Theatre presented events.

When Pete the Cat gets caught rocking out after bedtime, the cat-catcher sends him to live with the Biddle family to learn his manners - and boy are they square! But for the groovy blue cat, life is an adventure no matter where you wind up, so the minute Pete walks in the door, he gets the whole family rocking except for young Jimmy Biddle, the most organized second grader on planet earth.

The Dancers Space: Create.DANCE.Florida -Fall Collection 2016
Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. All tickets $25, Series tickets $45.
Co-presented with the Duncan Theatre, this season features Miami City Ballet, Ballet Palm Beach, New World School of the Arts, Demetrius Klein Dance Company, BAK Middle School of the Arts, and The Dancers' Space, to name a few. From a beautiful, classical étude featuring beloved dance teaching artists from Palm Beach County to a touching, post-war homage to the Greatest Generation told through a love story, circa 1945.

The Skivvies are Lauren Molina and Nick Cearley, singer/actor/musicians performing stripped down arrangements of eclectic covers and eccentric originals. Not only is the music stripped down - cello, ukulele, glockenspiel, melodica - but the Skivvies literally strip down to their underwear to perform. Nominated for "Show of The Year" for the 2015 MAC Award, The Wall Street Journal calls them "smart, sophisticated...ingenious."

Audiences of all ages will treasure this magical and captivating tale of family, friendship and hope set to timeless holiday hits including Nat King Cole, Mariah Carey and Tchaikovsky. In this wonderful story, Santa's helpers are putting the final touches on presents as a young bird named Max and his family head south for the winter and gets blown off course during a snowstorm. This delightful holiday production will make children wide-eyed with delight and warm even the smallest of hearts.

The Bronx Wanderers Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 8:00 p.m.

The Bronx Wanderers create an energetic bond with their audiences, ensuring an evening of dancing in the aisles and toe-tapping, as they authentically re-create the hits made famous by the likes of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons; Dion; and the classic hits of so many others from the beginning of Doo-wop and Rock 'n' Roll in the '50's and '60's, and even to the music of today.

Across the nation and around the world, Phildanco is celebrated for its innovation, creativity and preservation of predominantly African-American traditions in dance. Founded in 1970, Phildanco has a legacy of breaking barriers and building bridges across cultural divides, consistently performing for audiences representing an amalgamation of people from diverse communities.

Classical Café Series: Jasper String Quartet Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in Stage West Theatre. All tickets $35, Series tickets $100.

Winner of the prestigious CMA Cleveland Quartet Award, Philadelphia's Jasper String Quartet is the Professional Quartet in Residence at Temple University's Center for Gifted Young Musicians. The Jaspers have been hailed as "sonically delightful and expressively compelling" said The Strad and "powerful" said the New York Times.

Mix Tape Music Series: The 70's & 80's: LIVE in Central Park Revisited: Simon & Garfunkel Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. All tickets $30, Series tickets $85.
In September of 1981, after over ten years of separation, Simon and Garfunkel came together for an unforgettable reunion concert in Central Park. Relive these moments of music history. Vocalist Lee Lessack and singer-songwriter Johnny Rodgers bring the classic set list to life, revisiting the biggest hits of the greatest folk rock duo of all time. Modern Dance Series: Malpaso Dance Company-An Associate Company of Joyce Theater Productions -Friday, February 3, 2017 and Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 8:00 p.m.

Based in Havana, Cuba, Malpaso Dance Company is committed to bringing Cuban contemporary dance into the 21st Century by collaborating with top international choreographers and nurturing new voices in Cuban choreography. The company's core artistic vision is led by resident repertory choreographer Osnel Delgado. The company was founded in 2012 by Delgado, Dailedys Carrazana and Fernando Saéz, and consists of 10 dancers, including former members of Danza Contemporanea de Cuba.

Astonishing athletes defy gravity and execute breathtaking feats as they stretch the limits of human ability in this spellbinding show. Fearless performers with boundless energy bring you more than two thousand years of Chinese circus traditions. If it's humanly possible, and even if it's not! - Shanghai's acrobats, jugglers and contortionists do it with spectacular flair.

Classical Café Series: Panther String Trio Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 2:00 pm.

Featuring Misha Vitenson, violin, Michael Klotz, viola, and Jason Calloway, cello the Panther String Trio is an ensemble comprised of members of the Amernet String Quartet, Ensemble-in-Residence at FIU. They will present a program including major works of the repertoire for this rarely heard combination by Beethoven, Dohnanyi, and a work written in Terezin by Gideon Klein.

Modern Dance Series: BODYTRAFFIC Friday, February 17, 2017 and Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. All tickets $45, Series tickets $135 and $145.

BODYTRAFFIC is helping establish Los Angeles as a major center for contemporary dance. This company has surged to the forefront of the concert dance world. Named "the company of the future" by The Joyce Theater Foundation, Dance Magazine's 25 to Watch in 2013 and Best of Culture by the Los Angeles Times, the company is already internationally recognized for their high quality of work.

Mix Tape Music Series: The 70's & 80's: STAYIN' ALIVE: One Night of The Bee Gees!

For one night only this conert offers their audiences the songs and sights of a full Bee Gees play list, singing blockbusters such as "Night Fever", "Jive Talkin'", "How Deep Is Your Love", "You Should Be Dancing", "Nights on Broadway", and "Stayin' Alive". In addition, they perform softer poetic ballads such as "I Started a Joke", "Massachusetts", "Fanny Be Tender", "Words", and "To Love Somebody" among other great hits.

Classical Café Series: Vienna Piano Trio Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in Stage West Theatre. All tickets $35, Series $100.

This Trio is one of the most noted ensembles of its type to emerge in the last decade of the 20th century, particularly successful in repertory by composers closely associated with Austria, such as Brahms, Schubert, Haydn, and Dvorák, who had close links with these composers. Its' playing exhibits the traditional Viennese sentimentality and is alert to the nuances of the folk music traditions that appear in the works of all these composers.

William Close & the Earth Harp Collective Thursday, March 16, 2016 at 8:00 p.m.

William Close is an installation artist, musician and visionary who has developed over one hundred new musical instruments including the famed Earth Harp, which has the ability to turn every space into an instrument. The Earth Harp earned William a finalist slot on the TV show America's Got Talent and was named by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's longest playable stringed musical instrument.

Come celebrate the decade with the hit songs of Donna Summer, The Bee Gees, Gloria Gaynor, ABBA, Barry Manilow, The Village People, The Traamps and more, featuring a full disco band and incredible vocalists getting their groove on!

Manual Cinema ADA/AVA Monday, March 20, 2017 at 8:00 p.m.

In a mesmerizing hybrid of cinema and live stage show, Manual Cinema uses the medium of shadow puppetry to create poignant and surreal stories. Bereaved of her twin sister Ava, septuagenarian Ada solitarily marks time in the patterns of a life built for two. However, a traveling carnival and a trip to a mirror maze plunges her into a journey across the thresholds of life and death. Set in a landscape of the New England gothic, Ada/Ava uses a story of the fantastic and super natural to explore mourning and melancholy, self and other.

Known internationally for presenting works of astounding inventiveness and physical beauty, this company of dancer-illusionists was founded and directed by Moses Pendleton. Each production focuses not only on the beauty of the human form, but also the beauty of nature, music, scenography, and life itself. After a ten-year rest period, Opus Cactus is back again with a new look, fresh energy, and fun surprises! Moses Pendleton brings the landscape of the American Southwest to life with his signature illusionistic style creating dynamic images of cactuses, slithering lizards and fire dancers.

Award winning British cellist Jacob Shaw (b.1988) has given acclaimed concerts across Europe, USA and Asia, establishing himself as one of the most prominent young soloists based in Scandinavia. "Music Ambassador" for Dulwich College International and highly dedicated to helping and promoting young talents in his own field, Jacob also supports the next generation of musicians.

Drumline LIVE! Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 8:00 p.m.

Drumline LIVE! is an international tour based on the Historically Black College and University marching band tradition. With riveting rhythms, bold beats and ear-grabbing energy, this show is a synchronized musical showcase of the HBCU experience. Incorporating original compositions and soul-infused interpretations of top 40 hits, group performances will range from colorful, choreographed routines to heavy doses of drum riffs and cadences.

Pants Down Circus is a creative, vibrant and highly skilled ensemble working together to produce new, exciting and spectacular work without taking itself too seriously. The HillBenders' Tommy: A Bluegrass Opry Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at 8:00 p.m.

"Ever since I was a young boy I played the silver ball"... Maybe not your standard bluegrass lyric, but a line known by all the world from the biggest rock opera of all time, The Who's Tommy. Forty seven years after its original release, this classic of classic rock has now been fully realized as a full length bluegrass tribute featuring The HillBenders. Conceived and produced by SXSW co-founder and longtime musician/producer Louis Jay Meyers, this Bluegrass Opry brings a new perspective to Tommy while paying total respect to its creators. It's amazing to hear banjo, dobro, mandolin, bass, and guitar bring the same energy and vision to Tommy as The Who did with a full rock band and orchestra.
