Curtain Call Theatre is expanding its reach throughout St. Lucie County, adding two new musicals and a special engagement of The Beatles' Abbey Road in concert starring McCartney Mania to its already thrilling season. The new musicals, Story of My Life, a comic-drama exploring the contours friendship and tragedy, and The Last 5 Years, a musical chronicling a failed marriage from both points of view, are available for purchase as a discounted package. Curtain Call's hit show, Drag Queen Bingo Bonanza, an improv comedy duo paired with bingo, will also gain an additional brunch show January 11th to compliment its wildly popular evening performance January 10th.
Local Theatre devotees will be delighted to see Artistic Director Jake Sanders reunite with Director Jared Walker following their acclaimed production of Next to Normal at the Lyric in 2013 to tackle another controversial subject, suicide, in the uplifting comic drama The Story of My Life, which runs February 20th-March 1st. Sanders chose the show after legendary screen star Robin Williams took his own life this summer. "Depression is an illness that knows no prejudices. It can strike the rich, the poor, the successful and the downtrodden," explains Sanders. "It's time for us to get out there, talk about it and start doing something to prevent these tragedies."
The Last Five Years, a cult musical favorite by Tony-Award Winning Composer Jason Robert Brown, will continue the studio series from April 10th-19th, following the February Premiere of a big-screen adaptation starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordon. For music fans, Dr. Jimmy Autin will return with his Master Records Live series with local band McCartney Mania, tacking the legendary Beatles' album Abbey Road on January 31st. The show will also include bonus songs from the Beatles' additional catalogues and McCartney's career.
Known for a unique brand of daringly intelligent theatre, Sanders has something new envisioned for shows at 440 Peacock. Through frequent visits to New York City, Sanders has developed an affinity for cabaret-style venues that offer top quality theatre in a more intimate, nightclub style atmosphere, complete with cocktails and small plates. "I'm someone who really chases after quality. No matter whether it's theatre, food or cocktails, I want something unique and interesting, something I've never experienced before," says Sanders. "We have an amazing opportunity to offer people challenging and great theatre, paired with top quality food and drinks in a way that's not dinner theatre."
Within 440 Peacock, Patrons will be seated at tables rather then conventional theatre seats, and will have table service with a full liquor bar available each show with an ala carte small plate menu created by Catering Revolution's Kevin Bennington. Food and bar service will be available starting one hour before curtain each performance. "There's nothing better then enjoying top quality theatre, drinks, and food all at the same time," says Sanders. "This atmosphere will allow our patrons to have such a great experience and break down those conventions of how they take Theatre in."
