Curtain Call Playhouse Presents Diane Samuels' KINDERTRANSPORT ImageCelebrating its 21st year of great theatre, Curtain Call Playhouse is proud to present Diane Samuels' KINDERTRANSPORT, at the Pompano Beach Cultural Center (March 2-18) & the Sunrise Civic Center Theatre (March 24 & 25). KINDERTRANSPORT is directed by Ted Dvoracek, with Jerry Jensen as Assistant Director.

Chris-crossing three generations of women in one family, the past & the present is explored across the backdrop of World War II & present time. Between 1938 & the outbreak of WWII, almost 10,000 children, most of them Jewish, were sent by their parents from Germany to Britain, including 9-year old Eva. When her parents fail to escape, she changes her name & begins the process of denying her roots. It is only when her own daughter discovers some old letters in the attic, that Eva is forced to confront the truth. Though fictitious, it is based upon many real Kindertransport stories.

TED DVORACEK (Director) directed Curtain Call's 2017 production of The Lion in Winter. Recently, he directed Judgment at Nuremberg & has also staged productions of The Shadow Box & Other Desert Cities.

JERRY JENSEN (Assistant Director) is pleased to work with Curtain Call, after previously directing their productions of My Fair Lady, Private Lives, The Lion in Winter & It's Only a Play! Active in Florida Theatre since 2004, Jerry's worked with over a dozen companies as director, stage manager & actor.

Diane Samuels (Playwright) was born into a Jewish family in Liverpool & studied history at Sidney Sussex College at the University of Cambridge & studied drama at Goldsmiths, University of London. She worked as a drama teacher in inner London secondary schools for five years & as an education officer at the Unicorn Theatre for children. Samuels has been a full-time writer since 1992 & her works include Kindertransport (1993), Frankie's Monster - an adaptation of Vivien Alcock's The Monster Garden, The True Life Fiction of Mata Hari (2001) & Three Sisters on Hope Street, co-written with Tracy-Ann Oberman. With singer-songwriter Gwyneth Herbert, she wrote the musical, The A-Z of Mrs P, which tells the story of Phyllis Pearsall's creation of the London A to Z street atlas.

Featured in the cast of KINDERTRANSPORT are Kris Coffelt (Evelyn), Lindsey O'Neil (Eva), Joanne Marsic (Lil), Jennifer Coe (Faith), Marah Lieberman (Helga) & Joel Kolker (Ratcatcher).
