Lake Worth, FL -- The Cultural Council of Palm Beach County has just received the Bernays Award for producing a groundbreaking, and culturally diverse performance during the Governor's Conference on Tourism in Boca Raton.

"The Cultural Council is thrilled to receive the Bernays Award for our special promotion of Palm Beach County arts and culture at the 2014 Governor's Conference on Tourism," said Marilyn Bauer, director of marketing and government affairs. "The dramatic and entertaining mash-up of the Palm Beach Symphony, Ballet Palm Beach and Vanilla Ice to an audience that not only numbered more than 1,000 but included the Governor, resulted in record numbers in both traditional and social media. Media outlets from across the globe jockeyed for the money shot - Vanilla Ice with Rick Scott - and our video of the performance gave us more YouTube hits than we have ever had before. It was a great way to show Palm Beach County is more than just beaches."

The one-of-a-kind performance and the promotion surrounding it were deemed by the Gold Coast Public Relations Council to be the best special event in South Florida at communicating the depth and breadth of art and culture in Palm Beach County.

This is the third time the Council has been honored with the Bernays Award - previous marketing and public relations campaigns were recognized in both 2008 and 2014.

The Gold Coast Public Relations Council is the largest independent organization of public relations, marketing and communications professionals in South Florida, with members coming from Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Martin counties. The group awarded the Cultural Council the Bernays Award during its 11th annual awards program at the Boca Dunes Golf and Country Club in Boca Raton on January 30.

The award is named after Edward J. Bernays, considered the "father" of public relations.

The Vanilla Ice, Ballet Palm Beach and Palm Beach Symphony "mash up" was held at the annual Governor's Conference on Tourism, held this year at the Boca Raton Resort and Club on September 22. Video of the event, which is featured on the Cultural Council's YouTube channel, continues to receive daily views with more than ten thousand views to date.
