Caldwell Finalizes 2010-2011 Season: Hits From Start to Finish

By:

Caldwell Theatre Company has put the finishing touches on its 2010-2011 Season. As previously announced, the season opens with bringing back the multiple Carbonnell winning Vices: A Love Story starring Holly Shunkey and choreographed by AC Ciulla, both Carbonnell winners. Vices...is the groundbreaking musical told primarily through dance and features pastiche style music incorporating modern rock, disco, operetta, and R&B.

Vices...will be followed by the new Bruce Norris show Clybourne Park, which will feature Carbonnell winners Gregg Weiner, Karen Stephens and Margery Lowe. Clybourne Park is a  subversive comedy split between 1959 and 2009 and tells the story of a home initially to be sold to the first African American family to move into the Clybourne Park neighborhood of Chicago and then revisits the same home in 2009 with a white yuppie family buying the home and re-gentrifying what has become exclusively a African American neighborhood.  Clybourne Park is where the family was moving in A Raising In The Sun.

What follows is the Off Broadway and Broadway hit Next Fall. The play, which was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, is a touching, thought provoking play that deals with a gay relationship and how it is affected by family influences, religion, and ultimately mortality. Next Fall will mark the return of founding Artistic Director, Michael Hall, and will feature South Florida favorite, Pat Nesbit.

Finishing out the Season is the ultimate coup for Caldwell in landing the Florida premiere rights to Yasmina Reza's outrageous comedy, God of Carnage. It has been described as a "comedy of manners, without the manners." It involves two couples thrust together when one couple's son has injured the other in a playground fight. What you learn is that the children are the best behaved of the group.
