CAMELOT Kicks Off New Broadway Series At The Van Wezel

By: Nov. 04, 2009

Camelot, the definitive musical theater fable that The New York Times calls "the ultimate fantasy of the musical stage," ushers in the new Broadway Series at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall on Sunday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $40-$60 (a limited number of "Smart Seats" are available for $10).
Based on Lerner and Loewe's timeless masterpiece, Camelot is a sumptuous tale set in a land where honor and chivalry reign. The story follows the love triangle of King Arthur, his Queen Guenevere and the young Lancelot. The enchanting score features the title song, the hauntingly romantic "If Ever I Would Leave You," "I Loved You Once in Silence" and "Follow Me."

The original 1960 Broadway production starred Julie Andrews, Richard Burton and Robert Goulet, won four Tony® Awards and spawned several revivals, foreign productions and a 1967 film that starred Vanessa Redgrave, Richard Harris and Franco Nero.

Camelot at the Van Wezel is sponsored by Wilde Lexus of Sarasota and ABC-7, WWSB.
The Broadway Series at the Van Wezel features beloved classics and exciting new productions never seen in Sarasota before. In addition to Camelot, they include Irving Berlin's I Love A Piano (Nov. 30); Avenue Q (Dec. 10, 11), Defending the Caveman (Jan. 15); The Wedding Singer (Jan. 24), Girls Night: The Musical (Feb. 1); Hairspray (Feb. 9), Mamma Mia (Feb. 23-28), Cirque Le Masque (Mar. 14), 102 Years of Broadway (Apr. 7) and Xanadu (Apr. 20, 21).

Subscription packages and single tickets may be purchased at the Van Wezel Box Office, by calling (941) 953-3368 or by logging onto www.vanwezel.org. Dinner is available prior to the show at Michael's at the Van Wezel. For reservations, call 941/366-0007 or www.bestfood.com.
