The Key West Players will be holding auditions at the Waterfront Playhouse for their upcoming production of REEFER MADNESS, THE MUSICAL, with music and lyrics by Dan Studney and Kevin Murphy. The Waterfront production is the South Florida premiere and will feature the same creative team behind last year's smash hit Urinetown: Danny Weathers as director, Penny Leto as choreographer and Michael Fauss as musical director. The audition will be held on Saturday, November 3, 3:00 to 6:00 pm at The Waterfront Playhouse located on Mallory Square. Auditioners may show up anytime between those hours to be seen on a first come, first served basis.

The team will be looking for a cast of eleven – 6 women and 5 men. All cast members need to be excellent singers with good comedic ability. Please prepare a brief song that shows off your voice – an up tempo tune works best. Also, please be prepared to sing your song in the key in which it is written. Everyone must also move well, so wear comfortable clothes and shoes to move in.

Reefer Madness is a riotous musical version of the 1936 camp classic movie, which has been popular on college campuses and art houses since the film was rediscovered in the late 1960's. The musical is a tongue-in-cheek look at the hysteria surrounding a group of clean-cut kids who fall prey to "the evil weed." It also has a message about how people in power can use fear to manipulate and intimidate the public.

Reefer Madness premiered in Los Angeles and instantly became a hit. It won seven L. A. Drama Critics Circle Awards and five Ovation Awards, including Best Musical. The musical had a successful Off-Broadway run and was eventually filmed for Showtime in a version that starred Alan Cumming, Neve Campbell, Kristen Bell, Christian Campbell, Ana Gasteyer and Steven Weber. Daily Variety called the musical "A wonderfully inventive, super-charged musical parody."
