The story of a friendship between a San Francisco-based Jewish art
dealer and his former business partner, who has returned to Germany
as the Nazi Party comes to power.  As these dear friends become
ideological enemies, one commits a cowardly betrayal while the other
plots an ingenious—and deadly—revenge.

Address Unknown stars two wonderful actors: Avi Hoffman
(creator/performer of Too Jewish?) who has appeared at GableStage in
A Bad Friend and Frankie and Johnny in the Clair De Lune—and Ken
Clement, who is making his fourth return to our stage (Killer Joe,
Popcorn and Citizen Paine).

Address Unknown is based on a novella that first appeared in 1938
and became an immediate social phenomenon and literary sensation.
At that time, The New York Times Book Review said, "The most
effective indictment of Nazism to appear in fiction!"  It was edited
for the stage by the esteemed British director, Frank Dunlop, who
was Laurence Olivier's associate at London's National Theatre.  At
the Royal Shakespeare Company, he directed Sherlock Holmes, Scapino,
and Camelot (with Richard Burton)—all of which moved from London to
Broadway.

The play premiered at the Promenade Theatre in NY in June of 2004
and was later presented at the George Street Playhouse in
Philadelphia.   GableStage is only the third theater to present the
piece.

"The abiding effectiveness of ADDRESS UNKNOWN comes from its
insistence that given the right political and economic climate, even
seemingly good people can go bad quickly.  That message is obviously
not without contemporary relevance!" ~New York Times

"Good old-fashioned thriller!  Packs a surprising conclusion!" ~Star
Ledger

"Beautifully written!  Lands with the grace of a butterfly to
deliver the sting of a wasp!" ~Variety
