The Stonzek Theatre of the Lake Worth Playhouse is joining with scores of other independent movie houses across the country (www.unitedstateofcinema.com) in screening the film version of George Orwell's classic dystopian novel 1984 on April 4th, 2017.

We wish to publicly address the recent debasement of the English language by 'alternative facts" and other vile subterfuges. We also desire to provide a venue for our audience to discuss the proposed elimination of all public funding for the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and numerous other socially necessary programs in order to build more and bigger and deadlier bombs.

We will be joined in our post-screening discussion of "Language and Politics / Language as Politics" by two powerful artists. Israel Horovitz, the international award winning playwright and director, with his short film "Interrogation" and Yury Lobo, Russian born émigré painter and collagist, with his short film "Chasing Pollock". We will also show Taz Goldstein's short film '2084".

1984, directed in England and released in 1984, stars the recently deceased John Hurt and Richard Burton in his final film role. In the spirit of authenticity we wanted to begin our program as the clock struck 13 but necessity forced us to begin the evening at 6pm with the screening of 1984at 7pm and public discussion at 9pm. Seating is limited and admission is our standard $9.

Advanced tickets may be purchased here. Tickets may be available at the door the night of the screening. For a list of participating theaters across the country, click here. We look forward to seeing you at the Stonzek Theater, 713 Lake Ave. in downtown Lake Worth (561-296-9382) and having a rousing discussion.
