The Orpheum Theatre kicks off its spectacular 2013-2014 Broadway season with FLASHDANCE - THE MUSICAL. FLASHDANCE, the stage adaptation of the 1983 hit film that defined a generation, will perform at The Orpheum Theatre on September 19-25. BUDDY - THE Buddy Holly STORYwill follow October 15-20.

Tickets for both productions will go on sale Friday, August 9 at 10:00 AM. Ticket prices for FLASHDANCE - THE MUSICAL range from $20 to $90, and prices for BUDDY - THE Buddy Holly STORY range from $15 to $80. Tickets will be available for purchase online at www.orpheum-memphis.com, at the Orpheum Box Office (901.525.3000), the ticket counter at The Booksellers at Laurelwood, and all Ticketmaster centers (901.743.ARTS). Celebrating its 30th Anniversary, the original Paramount Pictures film was a worldwide smash hit that became a pop culture phenomenon, grossing over $150 million and featuring a Grammy Award-winning soundtrack. FLASHDANCE - THE MUSICAL features a score including the hit songs from the movie, all of which became Top Ten hits on the radio around the world including the Academy Award-winning title song "Flashdance - What a Feeling," "Maniac," "Gloria," "Manhunt," and "I Love Rock & Roll." In addition to these hits, 16 brand new songs have been written for the stage with music by Robbie Roth and lyrics by Robert Cary and Robbie Roth.

With electrifying dance at its core, FLASHDANCE - THE MUSICAL tells the inspiring and unforgettable story of Alex Owens, a Pittsburgh steel mill welder by day and a bar dancer by night with dreams of one day becoming a professional performer. When romance with her steel mill boss threatens to complicate her ambitions, Alex learns the meaning of love and its power to fuel the pursuit of her dream.

Joining Jillian Mueller as Alex and Matthew Hydzik as Nick are Katie Webber as Tess, Kelly Felthous as Gloria, DeQuina Moore as Kiki,Jo Ann Cunningham as Hannah, David R. Gordon as Jimmy, Matthew Henerson as Harry and Christian Whelan in the role of C.C.

Also joining the company are Carleigh Bettiol, Derek Carley, Ryan Carlson, Lynorris Evans, Haley Hannah, Charlene Hoffman, Jarvis McKinley, Doreen Montavlo, Ariela Morgenstern, Shane Ohmer, Austin Owen, Kristin Piro, Katelyn Prominski, Angelo Soriano, Dani Spieler, Lawrence E. Street, and Kamille Upshaw.

Directed and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys, Memphis, The Addams Family), FLASHDANCE features a book by Robert Cary and Tom Hedley(co-writer of the original screenplay with Joe Eszterhas).

In addition to the US touring company, a Second Company will be assembled for the creatively reworked production of FLASHDANCE, which will begin performances on Broadway in August 2013 for an open-ended engagement.

Flashdance - The Musical will play Thursday, September 19 through Wednesday, September25 at The Orpheum Theatre. Performances are Tuesday through Thursday at 7:30 PM, Friday and Saturday at 8:00 PM, and Sunday at 7:00 PM with matinees Saturday at 2:00 PM and Sunday at 1:30 PM. There will be no Monday performance.

In just three short years, Buddy Holly set the music world on fire and forever changed the face and sound of rock and roll. BUDDY - THE Buddy Holly STORYcharts his meteoric climb, legendary adventures and tragic fall on the fateful day the music died. Armed with a Fender Stratocaster guitar, his signature specs and a charismatic blend of rockabilly swagger, Buddy explodes onto the stage in this jukebox musical fully loaded with classics "Peggy Sue," "Oh Boy," "That'll Be the Day," "Well All Right," "Not Fade Away" and many more with an encore that will have you on your feet and dancing in the aisles.

One of the first jukebox musicals, BUDDY - THE Buddy Holly STORY has been seen by millions of fans in fifteen countries around the world, including the United States. The musical premiered in London's West End in October, 1989, where it ran for twelve years and over 5,000 performances, A Broadway production followed in 1990. The score includes over twenty of rock and roll's greatest hits by Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, The Big Bopper, and more.

BUDDY will be directed and choreographed by Norb Joerder with music direction by John "Jockey" Banister and creative consultation by Matt Salisbury. Casting will be announced at a later date.
