The 2017 - 2018 season at Playhouse on the Square season will begin with 9 to 5: the Musical, based on the hit film of the same name. Featuring familiar favorite songs like "9 to 5", as well as additional music and lyrics by Dolly Parton, 9 to 5: The Musical is the story of three unlikely friends who take control of their office and learn there is nothing they can't do, even in a man's world.

The Circuit Playhouse season begins with the Pulitzer Prize-winning play The Flick, the story of co-workers Sam and Rose. Passionate debates about cinema lead to a friendship of sorts between the two. Their tiny battles and not-so-tiny heartbreaks play out in the empty aisles, becoming more gripping than the lackluster, second-run movies on screen.

Next at Playhouse on the Square is the stage adaptation of the wildly popular film, Shakespeare in Love. Introducing us to a young Will Shakespeare, Shakespeare in Love is set against the backdrop of the creation of Shakespeare's most popular work, Romeo and Juliet, and features mistaken identity, ruthless scheming, backstage theatrics, and of course romance. Opposite Shakespeare in Love at The Circuit Playhouse is Heathers: The Musical. Based on the 1989 cult classic film Heathers, journey into the darkly delicious world of the cliques of Westerburg High School. Ruled by the fearsome trio of Heather, Heather, and Heather, the cruelest and hottest girls in all of Ohio. Misfit Veronica Sawyer rejects the Heathers evil regime for her new boyfriend, the dark and mysterious J.D., together concoct a plan to put the Heathers in their place - six feet under ground.

The Holiday Season at both Playhouse on the Square and the Circuit Playhouse have plenty of entertainment available for all ages! Peter Pan will once again be joining us on The Playhouse on the Square stage to bring the classic tale of the Darling Children and their wild adventures to life. At The Circuit Playhouse little Miss Junie B. Jones is back for Junie B. Jones, The Musical! Based on the best selling book series, Junie B. Jones, The Musical follows Junie B. as she navigates the sometimes scary, always hilarious, adventure that is the first grade. Sharing her journey with the audience through her "Top Secret Personal Bees-Wax Journal," this sweet musical will leave audience members of all ages smiling from ear-to-ear. Adults can enjoy the uproarious tales of Crumpet the Elf in The Santaland Diaries showing in the Memphian Room at The Circuit Playhouse. Back by popular demand, audience members can experience this intimate cabaret style performance about the ups and downs of the holiday season.

Starting 2018 at TheatreWorks is the World Premiere Production of All Saints in the Old Colony by Julianne Homokay. After emigrating to South Boston from Ireland, Kier's family fell apart following the birth of his baby sister. Keir sacrificed his own life to raise his three younger brothers and give them a shot at a life outside the Old Colony projects, yet somehow, the brothers are not all that grateful. The reasons why come out when an estranged brother returns home to stage a intervention on Kier. All Saints in the Old Colony is one of the winners of the 2016 NewWorks@TheWorks Playwriting competition. The second winner CRIB by Gino Dilorio will be presented in July 2018. The relationship between race, college athletics, and academics comes to a head in this timely and fascinating world premiere production.

January 2018 will also bring the regional premiere of Once to The Playhouse on the Square stage. Winner of 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Once is a sweeping love story set against the score of some truly original and breathtaking music. Opposite of Once at The Circuit Playhouse is the provocative, and at times laugh-out-loud hilarious, Perfect Arrangement. It's 1950, and new colors are being added to the Red Scare. Two U.S. State Department employees, Bob and Norma, have been tasked with identifying sexual deviants within their ranks. There's just one problem: Both Bob and Norma are gay, and have married each other's partners as a carefully constructed cover.

Next up at Playhouse on the Square will be Neil Simon's classic comedy, Laughter on the 23rd Floor. Based on Neil Simon's experiences as a junior writer for "Your Show of Shows," Laughter on the 23rd Floor follows the star/host of a weekly comedy variety show Max Prince along with his staff of writers. Join Prince and his team as they take us on a trip inside the writer's room. Opposite of Laughter on the 23rdFloor is a musical version of the beloved children's story, James and the Giant Peach. When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that results in a tremendous peach and launches him on a journey of enormous proportions.

In the spring Playhouse on the Square is proud to present the regional premiere of the Broadway hit Fun Home. Based on the best selling graphic novel of the same name, Fun Home introduces us to author Alison Bechdel at three different ages, revealing memories of her uniquely dysfunctional family. As we look through her eyes we witness her journey to self-acceptance and a daughter's determination to understand and connect with her volatile, brilliant, enigmatic father. A refreshingly honest musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes. Prepare to laugh at The Circuit Playhouse's Stupid F#&!ing Bird. This irreverent, contemporary, and very funny remix of Chekhov's The Seagull has original songs that draw the inner thoughts of the characters you are sure to consider how art, love, and revolution fuel your own pursuit of happiness.

The 2017 - 2018 Season at Playhouse on the Square will finish with the return on the wildly popular musical Dreamgirls on The Playhouse on the Square stage! Featuring the classic songs 'And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going,' 'One Night Only,' and'Listen,' Dreamgirls follows the journey of a young female singing group from Chicago and will transport you to a revolutionary time in American music history. The trio 'The Dreams', must learn the tough lesson that show business and stardom isn't always as glamorous as it seems. The Circuit Playhouse season will close with a play from some of the brightest minds in modern comedy, Second City. In Death of a Streetcar Named Virginia Woolf: A Parody a mysterious invitation brings Blanche DuBois back to New Orleans where she finds herself once again face-to-face with the smoldering Stanley Kowalski. They are soon joined by luckless salesman Willy Loman and hard-drinking couple George and Martha, and suddenly all bets are off. Add a folksy Stage Manager and the comic genius of The Second City team, and question becomes: Will the American theatre ever be the same?
