Playhouse On The Square Theatre Education Program Wins Award!

By: Jun. 21, 2018

Playhouse On The Square Theatre Education Program Wins Award! ImageCongratulations go to Theatre Education Assistant Director Claire Rutkauskus and Q&A- Queer Youth Theatre for receiving Pride Youth Theatre Alliance's 'Outstanding New Company Award.'

The Pride Youth Theater Alliance began as a cohort of directors, educators, and activists representing Queer Youth Theater (QYT) programs from across the U.S. and Canada. The alliance was officially founded in 2012 to collectively raise awareness and place institutional unity behind the work of individual QYT programs, the field at large, and the needs of communities where QYT groups exist.

The Outstanding New Company Award highlights a new company or program that is five (5) years old or less. The intention is to raise awareness of the work and company by celebrating its growth, challenges, and successes.

Q&A is an Education Program of Playhouse on the Square. Q&A is a theatre troupe for LGBTQIA and straight youth ages 14-21. Q&A uses theatre to explore and express what life is like for LGBTQIA or straight youth in Memphis and the surrounding area.

A ceremony will be held during the 2018 PYTA Conference Friday, July 27, 2018 in Boston, MA. Q&A will receive a cash prize of $2,500 and national recognition for their outstanding achievements.
