Orpheum Theatre to Present DIRTY DANCING with Pre-Screening Salsa Lessons, 7/25

Dance amateurs and experts alike will have the time of their lives at the Orpheum Theatre on Thursday, July 25 at 6:00 PM. Salsa Memphis dance instructors will lead patrons in fun, easy-to-learn Salsa steps in the Orpheum lobby prior to The Orpheum's Summer Movie feature DIRTY DANCING at 7:00 PM.

Salsa Memphis has been bringing the fire and passion of Latin dance to the Mid-South since 2002. Led by Director and Choreographer Edgar Mendez, Salsa Memphis has performed in cities throughout the region and across the country, entertaining and inspiring with every step.

"All of us at Salsa Memphis are very excited to teach audiences how they can imitate some of movie's sultry steps," says Mendez. "It's almost impossible to watch DIRTY DANCING without wanting to dance, and we'll be there to get everyone warmed up and ready to move!"

In the iconic 80s teen romance, DIRTY DANCING, a teenage girl learns about love, responsibility, and how to do The Dirty Boogie. In 1963, "Baby" Houseman (Jennifer Grey) is a 17-year-old spending the summer with her family at a resort hotel when, one night, Baby hears a party going on in the employee's dormitory. She discovers most of the hotel staff enjoying the sort of close dancing that would get you kicked out of the senior prom in no time flat. Baby is particularly struck by handsome Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze), a dancer in the resort's floor show, and falls head over heels in love. When Johnny's dance partner finds herself pregnant after a fling with one of the waiters, Baby volunteers to learn her steps and take her place, despite the disapproval of Baby's father.
