Just in time for Halloween, Chatterbox Audio Theater, Memphis's only web-based theater company, is proud to announce the release of its live soundtrack for THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI. Performed live at the McCoy Theatre at Rhodes College in 2012, the production finds the Chatterbox team adding voices, music, and sound effects to the classic silent horror film. The full production runs approximately 52 minutes and is now available for free streaming through YouTube and www.chatterboxtheater.org.

Released in 1920, THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI is considered one of the first horror movies ever made. It is also a classic of German Expressionism, featuring memorably stylized sets, makeup, and costumes. The macabre story follows the evil Dr. Caligari and Cesare, the somnambulist -- or sleepwalker -- under his command. After setting up shop at the town fair, Caligari and Cesare begin telling fortunes, all of which seem to involve the subject's untimely death, and all of which have a strange tendency to come true.

Chatterbox's innovative live soundtrack complements the original film with a full soundscape, which was performed live on stage. Actors give voice to the larger-than-life characters and create manual sound effects to match the action of the film. Musician Sumner Jenkins performs an original score for organ, just as in movie houses of old. The release is accompanied by original artwork by Andrew Chandler.

Chatterbox's soundtrack, matched with the original film, is now available in its entirety through chatterboxtheater.org or through the group's YouTube Channel. The production runs approximately 51 minutes and is free to access.

Formed in 2007, Chatterbox Audio Theater creates fully soundscaped audio works for free streaming and download. Based in Memphis, the group also produces shows in Kansas City, MO. Chatterbox has released more than 60 shows to date, all of which are freely available through iTunes and through the group's website, www.chatterboxtheater.org.
