Ogunquit Playhouse and Rotary International Team Up Again

The Ogunquit Playhouse is thrilled to be partnering once again with Rotary International to continue in the fight to eradicate polio worldwide by 2020. The annual Rotary Night is scheduled for Wednesday, May 23 for the evening performance of Smokey Joe's Cafe. The public is invited to join the fight by purchasing a ticket to the all-new revival of the sizzling song and dance show that features more than 30 of rock 'n' roll's greatest hits! A portion of every ticket purchased for that evening's performance will be donated to Rotary International. The Ogunquit Playhouse has contributed over $10,000 towards this cause through Rotary Night ticket proceeds over the past seven years.
Theater At Monmouth Dedicates 2018 Season To The Memory Of Nancy Bates Ludewig

This summer, Theater at Monmouth celebrates wily, wicked, and wonderful women through classic literature's most fantastic females. In this spirit, TAM dedicates the 2018 Roar: The Year of the Woman Season to Nancy Bates Ludewig. For the residents of Monmouth that is exactly what "Nance" represented-a force of nature, an iron will, and a tremendous heart. If there was a need, she would fill it; from Neighbors Helping Neighbor's Fuel Fund fundraising events to the Monmouth Healthy Meals Backpack Program, from Mayfair and Garden Club to annual Christmas Shows in Cumston Hall, Nancy brought people together. The board, staff, and artists of Theater at Monmouth express our sincerest gratitude to you, Nancy, for making this little theatre, in this little town a brighter place for all.

Penobscot Theatre Company's Dramatic Academy invites audiences to the barnyard for Babe, the Sheep-pig, the classic story of the politest pig in the pen and his unlikely rise to fame. Babe the pig proves his worth as a sheep herder with his trademark charm, narrowly avoiding becoming Farmer Hoggett's Christmas dinner. Performances will be May 11 at 5 pm, May 12 at 4 pm, and May 13 at 11 am at the Bangor Opera House.

The Ogunquit Playhouse is honored to have received two Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) Awards at the April 23rd ceremony held in Brookline, Massachusetts for the critically acclaimed 2017 production of Ragtime. The Playhouse received seventeen IRNE Award nominations overall, winning in the Large Theatre category for Best Actor in a Musical for Josh Young, for his performance as Tateh, and Best Sound Design for Kevin Heard.

Midcoast Youth Theater (MYT) presents their upcoming production of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins, a musical based on the stories of P.L. Travers and the Walt Disney Film. The University of Southern Maine Department of Theatre closes the 2017-2018 season with the upcoming production of "The Importance of Being Earnest" by Oscar Wilde, directed by Andrew Harris. Opening on Friday, April 20 and running through Sunday, April 29, all performances will take place on the USM Gorham Campus in historic Russell Hall. Special school matinees for grades 6 and up will take place on April 24 and 27 at 10:00 a.m, reservations are required.

This exuberant production of the record breaking Broadway smash hit is directed and choreographed by Emmy Award-winner and Tony Award-nominee Josh Bergasse who will bring new life to more than 30 classic songs including 'Stand by Me,' 'I'm a Woman,' 'Hound Dog,' 'Fools Fall In Love,' 'On Broadway,' 'Yakety Yak,' 'Pearl's a Singer,' 'Treat Me Nice,' 'There Goes My Baby,' 'Love Potion #9,' 'Jailhouse Rock,' and 'Spanish Harlem.' Penobscot Theatre Company's board of directors is pleased to announce the hiring of a new executive director, John Hedges of Allentown, Pennsylvania. Hedges will work in partnership with Producing Artistic Director Bari Newport to drive the organization's continued growth. He will be chiefly responsible for the design and implementation of all fundraising and development activities, marketing and communications initiatives, audience cultivation and community outreach, financial planning, and stewardship of the company's real estate and other assets.

Theater at Monmouth continues its long-standing tradition of providing access to arts education for young people in Maine with its annual Page to Stage tour. TAM has provided literature-based education programs in schools and community centers since the Theater's founding. Education Tours make adaptations of classic literature accessible to a geographically and economically diverse audience. "The live performance is something students don't see often anymore," said 4th grade teacher Pamela Prescott of Belgrade Central School. "[Attending a] performance of classic literature is a great connector to the classroom." Jolene Libby, 1st grade teacher at Turner Primary School said, "I believe it to be a real and authentic experience that students might not experience otherwise."
