USM Theater to Present OUR TOWN, 11/13-22
The University of Southern Maine Department of Theatre presents the second show of the season, "Our Town" by Thornton Wilder, guest directed by Andrew Harris. Opening on Friday, November 13, the show takes place at the Main Stage at Russell Hall on the USM Gorham campus, there will be a total of nine performances through November 22.
In Thornton Wilder's classic American play, their town is every town, and the banalities of daily life are rarely seen as the precious, awful, and wonderful miracles of existence they truly are. This Pulitzer Prize winning drama strips the stage of artifice and draws the audience into the universality of human existence, urging us to celebrate "every moment." The Stage Manager (played by Molana Oei) takes us on a journey through Grover's Corners, New Hampshire, where sweethearts Emily Webb (Brittany Burke) and George Gibbs (Collin Young) are due to marry soon, Joe (Katie O'Hara/Kristen Kinney) and Howie (Calvin Sprague) deliver the daily newspaper and milk, and the children scurry off to school. Love, life, and death move along just the same as paint dries and the rooster crows.
Tickets are $8 for students; $11 for seniors, USM employees and alumni; and $15 for the general public. The "5 at 5" Wednesday special takes place on November 18. On Friday, November 20 at 10 a.m. a special matinee takes place for High School groups. Advance purchase is required.
