TREASURED STORIES BY ERIC CARLE Comes to Merrill Auditorium, 10/20

By:

Portland Ovations brings Mermaid Theatre's Treasured Stories by Eric Carle to Merrill Auditorium for a Family Series performance recommended for children ages 3 to 8 on Saturday, October 20th at 11am.

Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia was founded in 1972 and ranks among North America's most respected theatres for the young having performed for nearly five million spectators on four continents. Winning critical acclaim for its earlier adaptations of Eric Carle's books, this new work by Mermaid Theatre compiles three of Carle's most beloved stories for a fantastical hour-long production that will entertain and educate the next generation of theatergoers. Featuring innovative puppetry, dazzling visual effects and evocative music, Treasured Stories brings together old favorites from The Very Hungry Caterpillar and new friends drawn from the pages oF Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? and the poignant story of a young girl's unusual quest, Papa, Please get the Moon for Me.

In conjunction with the Family Series performance of Treasured Stories by Eric Carle, Ovations Offstage is offering a community puppet workshop hosted by Portland Ovations, the Portland Public Library and Oak Street Studios this Saturday, October 6, 2012 from 10:00AM to 12:00PM for kids ages 4 and up. Using Eric Carle's illustrations and Mermaid Theatre's puppets as inspiration, workshop participants will create lively three-dimensional rod puppets to take home. The workshop is free and open to the public, but registration is required and space is limited to 50 participants. Sign up today at the Children's Library, Portland Public Library.

Tickets to Treasured Stories by Eric Carle are $10 and may be purchased online at www.portlandovations.org, contacting PortTIX at 207.842.0800 or visiting the box office window at Merrill Auditorium. Portland Ovations' presentation of Treasured Stories by Eric Carle is generously sponsored by Norway Savings Bank.
