Public Theatre to Offer Summer Theatre Training Program

By:

This summer, The Public Theatre, Lewiston/Auburn's Professional Theatre, will offer a professional theatre training program for young actors, July 7-25, 2014. If you know an experienced young performer wanting intensive theater training, or a "raw talent" looking to channel their creativity and imagination, this high quality theatre program is for them. Taught by theatre professionals, with professional standards and insights, this challenging and inspiring program is a unique alternative to traditional "drama camps".

The Public Theatre is accepting applications from dedicated students, ages 10 -16, to participate in a three week intensive training program, featuring master acting classes, stage combat, movement, voice and speech, singing and text analysis. The program will culminate in a free public performance on July 25th.

In this training program, we encourage each child to fully explore their imagination and intellect, and to express themselves in an integrated and dynamic way. Our goal is to help young actors tap into their potential in ways that might surprise them, teaching them that the process of creation is as important and exciting as the final show. Aside from improving their basic acting and concentration skills, students will also learn how to work as an ensemble and think on their feet, developing a greater sense of confidence and self esteem - all while having a ton of fun.

Participation in this program is through audition only.

Audition applications and details may be obtained by visiting our website or emailing us. Students will have the opportunity to audition for the program on either Saturday, April 12 or, if openings are still available, at a TBA date in May. Serious students are urged to apply as soon as possible. To attend the April 12th auditions, we must receive your application by Wed, April 9, 2014. You will be contacted to schedule an audition time.

The fee for the program is $475. Scholarships are available for a limited number of students with appropriate financial need. Scholarships are underwritten in part by Berube's Complete Auto Care and Falcon Shoe Manufacturing.
