Portland Ovations Presents Imogen Cooper at Merrill Auditorium, 4/25

Portland Ovations presents classical pianist, Imogen Cooper at Merrill Auditorium on Wednesday, April 25 at 7:30 pm.

Imogen Cooper has earned a reputation as one of the finest interpreters of the classical repertoire and is lauded worldwide for her virtuosity, poetic poise and suave athleticism. She dazzles audiences and orchestras with her unique musical understanding and lyrical quality making beautiful work of the most challenging music and consistently demonstrating passagework The New York Times calls "exquisite - impeccably even yet full of life, never mechanical..." Throughout her international career Ms. Cooper has performed at the highest level, playing with the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony, Vienna Philharmonic and the Australian and Orpheus Chamber Orchestras amongst many others.

Her Portland Ovations program features works by Brahms, Beethoven, Chopin, Schubert and Haydn.

Ovations Offstage offers the following events in connection with Imogen Cooper's evening performance; a pre-performance lecture, "Smoke and Mirrors: Making the Piano Sing" will be given by pianist Laura Kargul in the Merrill Auditorium Rehearsal Hall at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, April 25. Laura Kargul will demonstrate and discuss the ways in which pianists can create the illusion of a "singing line" on the piano.On Thursday, April 26 from 10 am - 12 pm Imogen Cooper will hold a masterclass at the USM School of Music, Gorham campus.
