Portland Ovations presents the winner of a Tony Award Honor for Excellence in Theater, Forbidden Broadway, on Friday, November 5th at 8:00 p.m. at Portland's Merrill Auditorium. The concert spoofs over 30 shows and personalities from the past and present of The Great White Way.

They say that parody is the sincerest form of flattery. This group of hilarious impressionists, known since 1982 as Forbidden Broadway, spend an evening spoofing everyone's favorite Broadway moments. The talent they poke fun at is matched only by the talent with which they mock. Their presentation at Merrill Auditorium includes parodies of Mamma Mia!, Wicked, South Pacific, Gypsy, Grease and much, much more.

Forbidden Broadway is a fall-down funny, satirical roast featuring outrageous costumes, silly send-ups of the songs you know by heart and madcap impressions by a stellar cast. From a version of Grease called "You're the One That I Hate!" to a bitter, cigarette smoking Annie who sings "I'm thirty years old... tomorrow," no iconic Broadway moment is left unscathed.

Ovations Offstage is offering a free pre-performance lecture on musical parody, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the Merrill Auditorium RehearsAl Hall on November 5th, immediately preceding the concert. As part of the lecture, a group of USM musical theater majors join Maine singer/actor/musical director Ed Reichert in an informal presentation of some of the original Broadway songs that are lampooned by Forbidden Broadway. The lecture also explores the unique sound of Broadway's greatest performers and discusses why they invite parody.

Portland Ovations' presentation of Forbidden Broadway is graciously sponsored by U.S. Trust.

Tickets for Forbidden Broadway range from $38 to $54 for the general public. Ovations Members get discounted tickets ranging from $34 to $49. Tickets can be purchased through PortTix, the Merrill Auditorium box office, located at 20 Myrtle Street in Portland, and by calling 207.842.0400. Tickets can be purchased online at www.portlandovations.org.
