Penobscot Theatre Company has announced its fourth annual Weekend in New York City, March 21-23, 2014. The centerpiece of the travel package are tickets to two Broadway shows: BEAUTIFUL, The Carole King Musical; and the much-anticipated revival of A RAISIN IN THE SUN, starring Denzel Washington and Diahann Carroll. Travelers will enjoy round-trip deluxe motor coach transportation from Bangor; lodging at a Times Square hotel just steps from the theatre district; several specially planned meals; and access to behind-the-scenes experiences only Penobscot Theatre can provide.

"Last year's travelers were among the first to see the spectacular Kinky Boots, winner of the 2013 Tony Award for best musical," said PTC board president Mary Budd. "We're looking to continue our streak of good picks with these exciting new productions."

BEAUTIFUL, The Carole King Musical tells the true story of King's remarkable rise to stardom from growing up in Brooklyn to writing the soundtrack to a generation. The San Francisco Chronicle raved: "This sleek, flowing production looks beautiful - and sounds even better. If you're leery of yet another jukebox musical, all doubts should be blown away. You'll feel the earth move."

A RAISIN IN THE SUN is returning to Broadway with the dazzling star power of Denzel Washington and Diahann Carroll. Originally produced in 1959, this seminal American drama revolves around the divergent dreams and conflicts within three generations of an African-American family in Chicago. RAISIN was the first play written by an African-American woman to be produced on Broadway, where it won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play. The revival is running for a very limited time at the Barrymore Theatre, where the play first opened.

"As much as these two sensational shows, I'm looking forward to seeing returning travelers and meeting new friends over the course of the weekend," said PTC Artistic Director Bari Newport. "It's a great opportunity for me to connect with PTC patrons and other theatre lovers, give them a little peak behind the scenes of the industry, and enjoy the magnificence of Broadway with them. Theatre is above all an experience best shared."

The complete weekend package is available for $1,200 per person based on double-occupancy lodging ($1,350 for a single room, $1,100 for a triple, and $1,000 for a quad). To register or obtain more information, call the Box Office at (207) 942-3333. Space is limited.
