Penobscot Theatre Company Announces Internships

By:

Penobscot Theatre is committed to the continuing education and training of our young members. We are now offering intensive job-shadowing summer internships for college age students seriously interested in a career in theatre.

Through collaboration with directors, administrators, designers, teaching artists, and professional production teams interns gain hands on training and cultivate lasting relationships with other artists. Interns should be highly motivated individuals with a desire to learn and accept new challenges. Penobscot Theatre Company's Internship Program affords young artists the opportunity to see their work contribute to our main stage productions, network with industry professionals, and gain a greater understanding of multiple facets of theater as both an art form and a business.

Members of the internship program become a vital part of the team here at PTC and many have gone on to have successful professional careers in the arts. 2013 intern Ethan Schneider says, "I learned many useful carpentry skills and rigging skills. I enjoyed my stay with PTC. The staff quickly embraced me as part of the team and we got along great. They even are helping me locate a job in the arts with their personal contacts that they have from Maine to California."

What to expect:
- Internships are approximately 30 hours per week
- Schedules are rigorous but flexible
- Summer internships are a commitment from mid May to mid August
- Letters of recommendation and reference are available upon successful completion of program
- Hours may be verified to fulfill community service and volunteer time
- Internships are unpaid

Internships are available in the following areas:
- Artistic Direction
- Administration/Management
- Education
- Production - (Carpentry, Sound, Lighting, Costuming, Properties, Stage Management)

To apply for an internship please submit a completed application, cover letter, resume, and a letter of recommendation. An entrance interview will be required. Application can be downloaded from the PTC website at www.penobscottheatre.org.

Please direct any questions to Director of Education and Outreach Jasmine Ireland at 947-6618 ext. 104 or jasmine@penobscottheatre.org
