Maine State Ballet Presents A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, 3/20-3/28

Beginning March 20th, Maine State Ballet will be performing A Midsummer Night's Dream, originally choreographed by George Balanchine in 1962.  With incidental music by Felix Mendelssohn, the performance incorporates Shakespeare's classic story of fairies and magic with enchanting dancing appropriate for the whole family. 

Performances take place March 20th and 27th at 2PM and 7PM and March 21st and 28th at 2pm.  Tickets are $15 and go on sale starting February 22nd.  To reserve tickets, call 207-781-7672 or visit http://www.mainestateballet.org/default.asp.

The Maine State Ballet Company, established in 1986, has fast become the leading professional dance company in the State of Maine. The Company, comprised of over 25 dancers, trains and performs throughout the year.

As a former member of the renowned New York City Ballet under legendary choreographer George Balanchine and recently appointed repetiteur for the Balanchine Trust, Artistic Director Linda MacArthur Miele offers her rare knowledge of the Balanchine technique® to her students and company. Linda Miele continues to expand Maine State Ballet's repertoire to include new full-length productions and smaller pieces that showcase the company's growing talent. Miele has staged Balanchine's world famous Serenade several times in Maine with permission from The Balanchine Trust and recently premiered her new neoclassical ballet Souvenir.

In early 2006, Maine State Ballet and its affiliate dance school, the Maine State School for the Performing Arts, blended into one not-for-profit institution. Maine State Ballet is run by a Board of Directors and is supported though dance school tuition, performance ticket sales, business partnerships and individual donors.  Maine State Ballet's maintains a dance school population of 500 dancers ranging in age from 3 to 62 years and residing in large area of southern Maine.
