Hackmatack Playhouse to Present LES MISERABLES, 7/31-8/17

By:

A Hackmatack Playhouse presentation of "Les Miserables" has been in the works for some time, according to Executive Producer Michael Guptill. "It's quite an undertaking and with a huge cast." The Guptill Homestead in Berwick is home to a Bison Farm and the quaint live performance venue known as The Hackmatack Playhouse. This old barn theater is a destination for hundreds of visitors every week. Guptil remarked, "We started the summer with comedy with "The Hound of the Baskervilles," are having a great response with The Sound of Music, and we are all excited about "Les Mis."

This international smash hit is based on the novel by Victor Hugo and may be the most popular musical in the world. In 19th century France, Jean Valjean is released from 19 years of unjust imprisonment, but sees nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. He is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert who refuses to believe that Valjean can change his ways. With the backdrop of the French Revolution, the story is grand and uplifting - and the music packs a thrilling emotional wallop. The show is a powerful affirmation of the human spirit.

"Les Miserables" opening night is sold out Wednesday, July 31 but tickets are still available for the remainder of the run with 8:00 PM shows Thursday, August 1, Friday, August 2, Saturday, August 3, Wednesday, August 7, Thursday, August 8, Friday, August 9, Saturday, August 10, Wednesday, August 14, Thursday, August 15, Thursday, August 16, and Saturday, August 17. There are 2:00 PM matinees on Thursdays, August 1, 8, and 15.

Hackmatack's final play of the season will be "Driving Miss Daisy" August 21 through August 30.
