Good Theater presents Underwaterguy 2.0, a visually vibrant solo show by
Steve Underwood. Directed by
Cheryl King, Underwaterguy 2.0 runs from April 11 to April 21, 2015 at St. Lawrence Arts, 76 Congress St, Portland, Maine. The opening performance is on Saturday April 11th and 3pm.
In Underwaterguy 2.0, a solo stage show plus multimedia experience, thirty colorful characters, placed within dozens of flashed-back "watermark moments", come to life against a backdrop of stunning water-themed imagery and transportive musical soundscapes. Swimming with apex predators, filming in whitewater whirlpools, dealing with "talking water" (after Thai magic mushroom omelets) - and diving to 117 feet on a single breath are but a few of the stops on this fast-paced (and funny) voyage. The show is ultimately an honest, uplifting celebration of the beauty that awaits below the surface, both in nature and within ourselves. (This "2.0" version expands on the storyline and HD visual content introduced in last year's world premiere of Underwaterguy. Approximately 30% of the material is brand new.)
Steve Underwood is a passionate, life-long water lover who has filmed in more than one hundred of Maine's most pristine lakes, ponds, rivers and streams - all while holding his breath. In more tropical climates, he has filmed whales, sharks, dolphins, turtles and fish by the thousands. His environmentally focused documentary work has aired on PBS. He is the co-founder of and operates Good Theater, a professional theater company - now celebrating its thirteenth season. His favorite Good Theater roles include Barrymore, The Dining Room, Forum, Drood, A Man of No Importance, Ruthless: The Musical and Little Me. He co-authored and performed in the musical Radical Radio from its premiere through a national tour and an off-Broadway run at Playhouse 91. He recently designed and prototyped Pakpod, a compact, super-versatile, waterproof tripod for use with iPhone and GoPro which will be launching with a Kickstarter campaign in September. (Diver Stats: Longest breath hold - 5:30sec, Deepest breath hold dive - 130ft, Most words spoken on a single breath - 187)

"...highly original... stimulating, sometimes surprising, but always engaging...Underwood gives a compelling performance - natural, shifting and subtle... Best of all, he tells the story, his story, with a sincerity and charm that is irresistible."
