Love is LoveFebruary 14-16 & 21-23, 2020Fri 2/14 and 2/21 at 7:30Sat 2/15 and 2/22 at 5pm and 8pmSun 2/16 and 2/23 at 2:30pmSpend Valentines Day celebrating the love of Adam and Steve! In celebration of all queer and cis-gender relationships, Lin Manuel Miranda famously proclaimed Love is love is love is love, during a Tony acceptance speech for Hamilton. Now Kanopy Dance echoes that powerful and passionate declaration through dance. To mark Valentines Day we present Adam & StEVE by noted late New York choreographer Stanley Love. In this regional premiere, Adam and Steve live in a Garden of Eden planted firmly in the disco era, where all are free to be who they are. Costume designer David Quinn returns to drape the Kanopy company in the flashy garb of Studio 54, an Eden where God looks down on a plethora of genders who could be contemporaries of Liberace, Elton John or David Bowie. But dont be tempted by the apple (actually a fiery red designer purse). Other romantic pieces on the program are Loves The Love Number, and Ede Thurrells Living End I & II.Suggested age range: 12 and upSeason subscriptions available now for 3-, 4-, and 5-performance packages.Feb. 14 Opening Night Reception, Promenade TerraceMeet the artists! BWW Review: A BRONX TALE at The Overture Center
May 18, 2019

I had the pleasure of seeing A Bronx Tale with my friend Cassy, who had NEVER seen a musical before! (I know, right?!) I invited Cassy because the 1993 movie, off which the musical is based, is her favorite. Seriously, her cat is named Calogero, after the lead character in both the movie and the play. I was excited to see this show, and especially excited to see it through the eyes of a neophyte theater goer. I was not disappointed!

Love Is Love In Theatre Presents LILA's Reimagined ROMEO & JULIET
March 14, 2019

Love is love. This was true for Romeo and Juliet - as they were originally conceived by William Shakespeare - as two young lovers from rival families in Renaissance Italy. It is equally true with Theatre LILA's bold new adaptation, featuring two young women who fall in love, despite the differences in their backgrounds. The Capulets are an affluent, racially-blended, Afro-Latino family, while the Montagues are a middle-class, white family. Featuring both English and Spanish languages; original music, movement, and dance; and the poetry of Shakespeare; Romeo & Juliet: A Theatre LILA Invention will be presented as a world premiere at Overture Center for the Arts, March 14 - 17, 2019.

BWW Interview: Kristina Walz of ROCK OF AGES at Overture Center
February 06, 2019

It's not like any other Broadway musical. I think people who aren't into Broadway, who don't know much about theatre are going to be blown away. It's not just a musical--it's a concert. You go expecting to see a musical, but you're on your feet.
