Spring Exhibition Cycle - Overture's Galleries I, II, III | Tuesday, March 13 - Sunday, June 3 | FREE
Gallery I - Water is Life
Water. It sustains us, cleanses us and quenches our thirst. In the not-too-distant past, clean water was considered an endless resource. Recent developments from the Flint water crisis to pipeline protests are raising concerns about access to and quality of water, for current and future generations.
Gallery II - Redefining Narratives - Erika Herrera, Dakota Mace & David Dexheimer
Free event: Cultural Dualities Through a Contemporary Lens | Wednesday, April 4, 6 p.m. | Promenade Hall
This exhibition explores cultural dualities and divides through a contemporary lens. Herrera's ethereal black and white photographs express her duality as a Mexican American. The intricate weavings of Mace re-contextualize traditional Diné (Navajo) practices, while creating a dialogue on cultural appropriation. Dexheimer's expressive paintings chronicle recent conflicts between police & the public.
Gallery III - Season of Shadows - Alaura Borealis and Community Participants
Free event: Artmaking with Borealis | Saturday, May 12, 12-4 p.m. | Wisconsin Studio
In this social project, Borealis interviews trans and nonbinary peers about gender and creates performances, installations and events around pressing themes. The exhibited collection of transcripts, photographs and other artifacts represents collaborating artists' metaphors for being queer today.

KiR - Limanya Drum & Dance Ensemble | Saturday, March 17, 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. | Rotunda Stage | FREE
Stop by the Central Library's Children's Room from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. for free art activities, special book displays and more, all inspired by the day's Kids in the Rotunda performance.

Duck Soup Cinema - Sunrise | Saturday, March 17, 7 p.m. | Capitol Theater | $10

Organist - Clark Wilson

For more than 30 years, Overture has revived and celebrated the heritage and legacy of Capitol Theater, originally built for silent film and opened in 1928. Local vaudeville-style acts open each performance with live organ accompaniment to mirror the actors' emotions on the 1928 Grand Barton Organ, one of the last of its kind still in its original theater. This mature drama, which won three Oscars at the 1st Academy Awards in 1929, is a tale about a farmer fighting good and evil within him - choosing between an urbane woman and his wife at home. Director F.W. Murnau used the Fox Movietone sound-on-film system, making Sunrise one of the first feature films with a synchronized musical score and sound effects soundtrack. This special screening is a longer feature film, which may not be appropriate for children and will not include vaudeville acts or door prizes.

KiR - Trinity Irish Dance | Saturday, March 24, 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. | Rotunda Stage | FREE

KiR - Stuart Stotts - Songs & Stories | Saturday, March 31, 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. | Rotunda Stage | FREE

SHH! We Have a Plan | Saturday, March 10, 1 and 3 p.m. | Promenade Hall | $26 |

Guess How Much I Love You & I Love My Little Storybook | Sunday, March 11, 3 p.m. | Capitol Theater | $20+ |

The Madison favorite children's touring company, Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia, returns! Little Nutbrown Hare loves Big Nutbrown Hare as far as he can reach and as high as he can hop. But Big Nutbrown Hare loves him as far as his long arms can reach and as high as his strong legs can hop. And so it continues... Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia adapts Guess How Much I Love You, the award-winning classic from author Sam McBratney and illustrator Anita Jeram. In I Love My Little Storybook, an eager little bunny lies on the grass and opens his book, and within moments, the story he's reading comes alive in fascinating detail. From illustrator Anita Jeram comes this endearing celebration of the joy of reading.

The Pirates of Penzance | Thursday, March 15, 7:30 p.m. | Capitol Theater | $45+ |
Presented by New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players with Artistic Director Albert Bergeret. Set sail with "the very model of a modern Major-General" in this New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players' classic comedy that boasts one of the most famous patter songs in musical theatre history. The rich sounds of full orchestra, chorus and vocal soloists resonate with classic elegance and power while the company's vibrancy, energy and contemporary sense of humor keep the show alive and exciting to a modern audience.

On the coast of Cornwall, a band of tenderhearted pirates celebrates the coming of age of Frederic, who was mistakenly apprenticed to the pirates until his 21st birthday. Now, Frederic has vowed to devote his life to the extermination of piracy - until a ludicrous leap year snag threatens to keep him apprenticed to the pirates for life! Throw in a bevy of beauties, a brash Pirate King, the delightfully stuffy Major-General Stanley and you've got what The New York Times calls "an endearing production with high musical standards and spirited performances."

Tickets are available at the Overture Center box office (201 State Street), by visiting overture.org, or by calling 608.258.4141. Group orders of ten or more may be eligible for a discount and can be placed by calling 608.258.4159.

Duck Soup Cinema is sponsored by Goodman's Jewelers and underwritten with a generous gift from Robert N. Doornek. Gallery I sponsored by the Arts Access Fund, a component fund of the Madison Community Foundation, Webcrafters-Frautschi Foundation and by contributions to Overture Center for the Arts. Gallery II & III are sponsored by the Arts Access Fund, a component fund of the Madison Community Foundation and by contributions to Overture Center for the Arts.

Madison Community Foundation has provided a $35,000 matching grant to restore the Grand Barton Organ. The first $35,000 given to the Restoration Fund will be matched dollar-for-dollar.

At 90-years-old, the Grand Barton Organ is the crown jewel of the Capitol Theater. One of the few remaining Barton Organs still located in its original venue, the Grand Barton Organ has had minor repairs over its 90 years, but requires more extensive care. A comprehensive restoration is extremely labor-intensive as each piece of the Organ must be painstakingly disassembled, cleaned, and restored or replaced as needed.

Overture Center for the Arts in Madison, Wis., features seven state-of-the-art performance spaces and five galleries where national and international touring artists, ten resident companies and hundreds of local artists engage people in nearly 700,000 educational and artistic experiences each year.
