StageOne presents James and the Giant Peach - The Musical at the Kentucky Center! When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion which results in a tremendous peach - and launches a journey of enormous proportions. Suddenly, James finds himself in the center of the gigantic peach among human-sized insects with equally oversized personalities, but after it falls from the tree and rolls into the ocean, the group faces hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements. Thanks to James' quick wit and creative thinking, the residents learn to live and work together as a family. The dangerous voyage is a success, but the adventure takes a whole new twist once they land on the Empire State Building. For ages 8 and up.

Along with other culture and arts partners, The Kentucky Center will help keep children learning and exploring during the summer months with special access to programs and exhibits. The Kentucky Center is participating by offering a series of events over the summer, including the Kentucky Center Concert Series (Tuesdays in June, 5-7pm); The Family Fun Film Series - Louisville Film Society and The Kentucky Center Present Family Film Night on the Belvedere.

Certainly the tragedy of losing a child has been thoroughly examined, if not exhausted; but it ultimately comes down to how you tell a story. Playwright Lauren Yee tells hers with precision and emotional impact, using nonlinear narrative and semantic legerdemain to make her characters and their circumstance feel new.
