By: Feb. 01, 2013

Celebrate Black History Month with the children in your life by honoring Jackie Robinson in StageOne Family Theatre's JACKIE AND ME, playing Saturday February 23, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. & 5:00 p.m. in the Bomhard Theater (KCA). Cost: $19.75 per ticket. To purchase, call (502) 584-7777 or go online at www.kentuckycenter.org.

Brooklyn. 1947. Jackie Robinson has just been drafted to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers, breaking the color barrier as the first African-American baseball player to be signed to the Major Leagues. Teams refuse to play him, teammates refuse to acknowledge him. Will he fight back...or does he have the strength not to? Go back in time with Joey Stoshack, a headstrong young boy who learns firsthand the hardships Robinson endures when he travels to 1947, meeting one of history's greatest baseball players and forever changing his view of history and his own definition of courage.

StageOne presents Steven Dietz' Jackie and Me, an in depth look at racial division within our national pastime in a segregated United States. See how one man changed the face of the sport, and the nation, and the effect it had on Robinson as a major league ballplayer; including Robinson's longtime relationship with fellow teammate, and Louisville's own, PeeWee Reese. Due to strong language prevalent in that era, this production is recommended for ages 8 and up.
