INOCENTE Documentary Screening and Q&A Set for Kentucky Center Tonight
The Acadamy Award-winning documentary INOCENTE will host a free screening and Q&A/meet and greet with Inocente Izucar tonight, July 8th from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Bomhard Theatre, Kentucky Center. Free to the public, no ticket needed.
In San Diego, a young teenage girl's eyes stare into a compact mirror. She paints a dramatic black swirl around her eye. She never knows what her day will bring, but she knows at least it will always begin with paint. "Inocente" is an intensely personal and vibrant coming of age documentary about a young artist's fierce determination to overcome poverty and homelessness and win widespread recognition for her whimsical, colorful artworks.
The challenges are staggering, but the hope in Inocente's story proves that her past does not define her-her dreams do. Matt D'Arrigo, Founder and CEO of A Reason to Survive (ARTS), the program that has mentored Inocente for six years, will accompany Inocente to Louisville.
This film, with its positive messages about arts education and social advocacy, will be shown by The Kentucky Center's ArtsReach Program to an audience of young people many of which will have the opportunity to make art with Inocente during her week long residency.
"Inocente" directed by Sean Fine and Andrea Nix Fine was the 2013 Oscar winner for Best Documentary Short Subject, and has won prizes all across the international film festival seen.
