blue13 dance company will make it's debut at The Edye Second Space at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center with a One Night Only performance of the company's newest show, "BOLLYWOOD DELICIOUS." Director Achinta S. McDaniel delivers a dance theatre show of contemporary Bollywood dance, ripe with lip-smacking, lip-synching parody presented in blue13's signature Bollywood-Tech style.

The performance will be presented on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. at The Edye Second Space at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center; 1310 11th Street (located on Santa Monica Boulevard, between 10th and 11th Streets); Santa Monica, CA 90403.

McDaniel said: "We are thrilled to be making our debut in the Westside's newest state-of-the-art venue, The Edye. ‘BOLLYWOOD DELICIOUS,' puts a colorful twist on the typical Bollywood show, featuring satirical tongue-in-cheek pieces, along with restaged blue13 audience favorites and new works by assistant choreographers, Kory Keith, Arun Mathai and Rashi Birla. This is a show the entire family can enjoy." Tickets are $20 each.

Production personnel will include: Achinta S. McDaniel, Artistic Director/Choreographer; Arun Mathai, Assistant Choreographer; and Tej Gill, Musical Supervisor.

blue13 dance company (blue13) has performed for sold out audiences all over Los Angeles, the U.S. and abroad, most recently premiering "Bollywood Delicious" at Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica, which was chosen by the Los Angeles Times as a Top Dance Pick. In 2008, blue13 presented it's critically-acclaimed World Premiere of "KHEL! A Bollywood Bedtime Story" at the Ford Amphitheatre, and the dance company embarked on it's first international tour with an original live music and dance spectacular entitled, "FEZ: Queen of Cities," which played to sold out audiences in Los Angeles, New York, Morocco and Paris. Most recently blue13 company members appeared on KCAL-TV (Channel 9) on the television show, "The Doctors."

Since 1999, blue13 has performed nationally, both onstage and on screen, in a variety of genres, including McDaniel's signature Bollywood-Tech and Neo-Kathak styles, as well as in contemporary, ballet, jazz, hip-hop, fire dance, aerial arts and more. Bollywood-Tech is contemporary dance theatre rooted in the traditions and inspirations of Indian dance, music and culture. blue13's performance style introduces audiences to this new genre of work by experimenting with international dance techniques to create contemporary dance theatre fueled by storytelling, a multi-ethnic cast and multi-genre influences.

Achinta S. McDaniel (Artistic Director, Choreographer and Dancer) is a pioneer of mixed genre contemporary dance in the United States, working as a leading choreographer both on stage and on camera throughout the nation for over 10 years. In 1999, she founded blue13 dance company, and has since enjoyed great success in creating live, critically-acclaimed dance productions internationally in her signature styles, Neo-KathakTM and Bollywood-TechTM. She is known for her experimentation with a wide variety of multi-ethnic, multi-genre movement styles, fueled by a commitment to athletic and fluid contemporary dance theatre. A prolific choreographer, performer, and instructor, McDaniel's powerful style encompasses techniques from ballet, modern dance, jazz, tap, and hip-hop, to Bollywood, Bhangra, African, Moroccan, and classical Indian Kathak. McDaniel is a 2008 Horton Dance Award nominee in the choreography - long form category for her contemporary epic "Six. Fifteen and Everything Senseless."

blue13 dance company is dedicated of the advancement of experimental and non-traditional contemporary dance while preserving and cultivating the cultural and classical forms of India. Passionately translating dance into enduring societal contributions, blue13 dispels cultural stereotypes and connects diverse communities through cross-genre and multicultural classes, workshops and live performances that inspire global unity and togetherness. Dance education is central to blue13's long-term community goals. Under the umbrella of blue13, Artistic Director Achinta S. McDaniel created The Blue School in 2003. Since then, she has been teaching Los Angeles' longest running popular Bollywood dance classes at venues like Swerve (in Los Angeles), International Dance Academy (in Hollywood), MnR Dance Factory (in Brentwood) and at UCLA (in Westwood).

The Edye, located behind The Broad Stage on the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center campus, is a new performance and rehearsal hall dedicated to all Arts eclectic and powerful.
