Watts Village Theater Company to Perform at Metro’s Expo Line Opening, 4/28
On Saturday, April 28, Watts Village Theater Company (WVTC) will perform a series of site-specific, cultural entertainment pieces during the Expo Line Opening at the new USC, La Cienega and 7th St/Metro Ctr. stations along the route.
This event is the continuation of an ongoing partnership between Metro and WVTC developed over the past three years to initiate a new fusion between the arts and transit in Los Angeles. In addition to the performances, WVTC will have an Expo vendor booth at USC to promote its upcoming season, including its site-specific extravaganza, Meet Me @Metro: Uncovering Los Angeles’ Hidden Treasures, on Metro’s Gold Line this summer.
WVTC’s Artistic Director, Guillermo Avilés-Rodríguez, will curate the performances, which will include festively dressed, multicultural street performers that attendees will have the opportunity to take photos with and keep a Polaroid copy of the picture. The performers will move from station to station, starting at USC then to La Cienega and finally to 7th St/Metro Ctr. Approximately 70,000 residents are expected to attend the Opening, and the Expo Line trains will be free for all riders during the day.
