In her first feature length directorial debut, Patricia DiSalvo Viayra has taken home the top honor, the 'Best Feature Film Award,' at the 2018 Origins Game Fair Film Festival for her latest film, Tournament, it has been announced today. Tournament is a new fantasy and gaming adventure comedy that follows a group of unlikely friends who gather at their local game shop for an epic battle, only to have a beautiful outsider turn everything upside down.

The film captures the spirit, camaraderie and smack talk of millions of players around the world, and is currently being embraced both by those in the gaming community and beyond. The Origins Game Fair Film Festival is the second largest table-top gaming convention in the United States. The film will next go on to screen at the largest table-top gaming convention in the U.S., the Gen Con Film Festival, in August. Last year the festival reached a staggering 70,000-plus attendees.

Says DiSalvo Viayra, "It's awesome that gamers and non-gamers alike are connecting with Tournament. Gamers find the characters relatable and that Tournament captures the game shop culture. Non-gamers are pleasantly surprised by the unique characters, authentic relationships and often want to know what happens next! We look forward to sharing the film with people throughout the U.S. and throughout the world. We are honored to win the "Best Feature Film" Award at Origins Film Festival."

The film was co-written, directed and produced by DiSalvo Viayra, and co-written by Sam Gasch. It stars Ricardo Chavira, Elisha Kriis, Marwan Salama, Doua Moua, Marisa Davila, Grace Folson, David Namminga, Arielle Hader, James Hal Hardy and more.

Says Namminga, "When viewers continue to tell you that they know every single character in the film from their local game shop across the country, you know you've done something right! Tournament has clearly struck a chord with the gaming community, and it's been a wild ride as the buzz continues to spread!"

The creators of the film are currently touring the United States visiting game shops, gaming tournaments and conventions for Summer 2018. DiSalvo Viayra is the co-founder of Lucky Bag Films, a producer of Tournament, and is the festival director and co-founder of Lady Filmmakers Film Festival in Beverly Hills, California.
