About the show:

As the dust of a brutal civil war settles, the new King of Thebes, Creon, decrees that Antigone and Ismene's traitorous brother Polynices remain unburied and dishonored.

When Antigone buries him, walking the dangerous path of religious and familial duty, the actions and arguments that unfold between sister and sister, father and son, and King and State raise timeless questions about political and religious power, duty, compliance, and civil disobedience.

Set in an underground safe house in the late 20th century, Antigone will be performed using a modern-language 1939 translation by Dudley Fitts and Robert Fitzgerald that remains true to the powerful lyricism of ancient Greek theatre.

Antigone is an entirely student-led production, put on by current undergraduate members of Torrey Honors Institute who are seeking to thoughtfully interpret this great work of literature for our campus and community.
