Theatre of NOTE Presents West Coast Premiere of FOR THE LOVE OF (OR THE ROLLER DERBY PLAY)

Theatre of NOTE continues its 2018 season with its production of For The Love Of (or, the roller derby play) by Gina Femia, directed by Rhonda Kohl. For The Love Of will preview Tuesday and Wednesday, April 24 and 25 at 8pm, and will open on Thursday, April 26 at 8pm and run through Saturday, May 26 at Theatre of NOTE, 1517 N Cahuenga Blvd (just north of Sunset) in Hollywood.

When Joy gets on the Brooklyn Scallywags and meets the star, Lizzie Lightning, she and her long-term partner Michelle find their lives turned upside down. For The Love Of asks how much you're willing to sacrifice - or lose - to follow your heart. Part of Theatre of NOTE's "Year of the Woman," this production features an all-female cast and all-female design team.

ABOUT THE CREATIVE TEAM

Gina Femia (Playwright): Gina Femia's plays include For The Love Of (or, the roller derby play) (Chicago's Pride Films and Plays), The Violet Sisters (Great Plains Theatre Conference), Annie and the Fat Man (finalist, Leah Ryan Prize for Emerging Playwrights; honorable mention, The Kilroys List), The Mermaids' Parade (finalist, Princess Grace Award), ALLOND(R)A (finalist, Doric Wilson Independent Playwriting Award), Super, or, How Clark Graves Learned to Fly (semi-finalist, the O'Neill and The Princess Grace Award), Mahogany Brown and the Case of the Disappearing Kid (The Brick's Comic Book Theatre Festival), and Five-Sided Triangle (Dixon Place's HOT!Fest, The Downtown Urban Theatre Festival). Gina is a current member of Lather, Rinse, Repeat, a New Georges Affiliated Artist and a New York Madness Company Member, has received residencies with NTI at the O'Neill, SPACE on Ryder Farm, Fresh Ground Pepper and Grin City Collective. She has been nominated for the Doric Wilson Award and the Cherry Lane Theatre Mentor Project and is a semifinalist for the P73 Playwriting Fellowship. RHONDA KOHL (Director/Choreographer) is a Los Angeles based director/choreographer. She is excited to to be joining Theatre of NOTE for the first time. She is an associate member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society and was a past member of the SDCF Observership Class, as well as an alumni of Directors Lab West. Prior, she directed the LA Times Critic's Choice production of Mark Brown's Around The World In 80 Days and developed and premiered the new work Pocket Universe at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. She served as the SDCF 2016 Traube Directing Fellow on the Broadway debut of In Transit at Circle in the Square Theatre with Kathleen Marshall and worked again with Mrs. Marshall on Mamma Mia at the Hollywood Bowl, The Roundabout Theatre's benefit reading of Damn Yankees an on Reprise 2.0's upcoming production of Sweet Charity. She recently assisted Michael Michetti on the Los Angeles premiere of King Charles III at The Pasadena Playhouse and returned to work at the Playhouse assisting Sean Graney on Pirates of Penzance. She also worked as assistant director for The Geffen Playhouse on the West Coast premiere of Barbeque, directed by Colman Domingo, and returned to the Geffen as assistant director to Jeanie Hackett on Long Day's Journey Into Night, starring Alfred Molina and Jane Kaczmarek.

ABOUT THE CAST AND DESIGN TEAM

The cast of For The Love Of features Cassandra Blair, Crystal Diaz, Elinor Gunn, Liesel Hanson, Faith Imafidon, Cindy Lin, Nadia Marina, Lynn Odell, Alina Phelan, Nicole Gabriella Scipione, Yolanda Snowball, Jenny Soo, Nancy Stone, and Tania Verafield.

For The Love Of features the talents of an impressive all-female design team, including Assistant Director Lauren Smerkanich, Set and Prop Designer Eli Smith, Costume Designer Vicki Conrad, Sound Designer Gillian Moon, and Lighting Designer Rose Malone. The production is stage managed by Aaron Saldaña with assistant stage manager Ellie Chaika.

SCHEDULE AND PRICING

For The Love Of (or, the roller derby play) will preview on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 24 and 25 at 8pm, and will open on Thursday, April 26 at 8pm. It runs through Saturday, May 26 at Theatre of NOTE, 1517 N Cahuenga Blvd (just north of Sunset) in Hollywood.
