The Summer Reading Series Presents THE ALCHEMIST 8/13
The Summer Reading Series Thursday, August 13 at 7:30 p.m. THE ALCHEMIST by Ben Jonson
Jonson's rambunctious satire takes aim at the avarice and credulity of human kind. When the master of the house flees London to avoid the plague, his quick-witted butler, Jeremy, joins forces with a conman and a prostitute to fleece the gullible and greedy.
This trio of grifters convince the well-to-do that they can raise the dead, transmute lead into gold, and summon the Queen of the Fairies. Money rolls in...until the master of the house returns unexpectedly leading to Jeremy's final, unexpected, con.
Witty, boisterous, and poetic: this play has all the hallmarks of Jonson's delightful writing. Come join the fun tomorrow night!
(PLEASE NOTE: the Summer Reading Series is not being held at Barnsdall Park.)
