
Tomorrow, Friday, December 1st, and Saturday, December 2nd, Grand Park will host Afro-Cuban dance and percussion workshops and a Rumba Dance Party + Jam Session.
A collective of Cuban and Cuban-American musicians and dancers, including Pancho Amat, Yissy Garcia, Made In Cuba, Telmary Diaz and more, will present the ancient traditions of Rumba.
Part of The Music Center's Cuba: Antes, Ahora / Then, Now, a multifaceted celebration of traditional and contemporary Cuban art, both events are open to all levels.
As one of only three performing arts organizations selected to take part in the Getty-led Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA, The Music Center will present more than 48 world-class Cuban and Cuban-American musicians, dancers and visual artists at The Music Center and Grand Park in Los Angeles. The Music Center's Cuba Antes, Ahora / Then, Now offers Angelenos of all ages access to the vibrant sights and sounds of Cuba's dynamic arts scene.
A Afro-Cuban Dance and Percussion Workshop will take place on Friday, December 1st from 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m., and another Afro-Cuban Dance and Percussion Workshop, along with a Rumba Dance Party + Jam Session, are set for Saturday, December 2nd, with the following schedule:
- 1 p.m. Lazaro Galarraga percussion workshop + Kati Hernandez dance workshop
- 2 p.m. Dance performances with Cortines High School and Maya Angelou High School students
- 2:30 p.m. RUMBA dancing begins!
- 3:30 p.m. Performances by Dayren Santamaria & Made in Cuba
- 3:45 - 5 p.m. Made in Cuba / Special Guest Jam Session with Yissy Garcia, Pancho Amat, Telmary Diaz + San Miguel
