The Lower Depth Theatre Ensemble Presents THREE SISTERS AFTER CHEKHOV 7/7-9

By:

The Lower Depth Theatre Ensemble is presenting as its inaugural production, the U.S. Premiere of THREE SISTERS AFTER CHEKHOV, written by acclaimed playwright Mustapha Matura, and directed by Gregg T. Daniel. THREE SISTERS AFTER CHEKHOV will preview on Wednesday, July 7 at 8pm; Thursday, July 8, 8pm and will open on Friday, July 9 at 8pm and run through Sunday, August 8 at The Lost Studio, 130 S. La Brea in Los Angeles.

In Mustapha Matura's penetrating adaptation of Anton Chekhov's classic play set in 1941 Colonial era Trinidad, three sisters live a privileged life in Port of Spain with their unworldly brother and his domineering wife, occupying their life with empty marriages and indiscreet liaisons. The sisters dream of returning home to their adopted country, England, and the spires of Cambridge where they spent their cosmopolitan youth. But these ambitions of emigrating soon collapse as WW II escalates and the Trinidadian army is called to serve King, Country and Empire. The translation of Caribbean people, language and culture adds remarkable resonance to this enduring classic. This play captures the complexities of family life, challenges community consciousness, and celebrates the collective human experience.

The cast of THREE SISTERS AFTER CHEKHOV features Nadege August, Terrence Colby Clemons, Prema Cruz, Jason Delane, Douglas Dickerman, Yvonne Huff, Veralyn Jones, Diarra Kilpatrick, Michael Ralph, Elayne, Taylor, Jeorge Watson, and Mirron Willis.
